SARANAC LAKE — Kayla Brown scored just over a minute into the second half to lift Jefferson Community College over North Country Community College 2-1 in women’s soccer Monday.
The Saints (3-8) thought they had tied the game late in the half, but the goal was waved off.
“We had a ton of chances to win this,” North Country coach Kent Egglefield said. “We missed a penalty kick with eight minutes left. We scored what looked to be the tying goal with a minute-and-a-half left before a controversial offsides was called. That hurt even worse.
“I know the shots were pretty even, but I’ve never, possession-wise, controlled more of a game and lost. But I guess it happens.”
Jefferson (10-4) held a 16-15 edge in shots. Amber Dibble made seven saves for the win.
North Country got on the board first when Chelsea Lafountain scored on an assist from Emily Lapage in the 30th minute of the first half. Morgan Kiernan tied it up about nine minutes later.
Lapage made 11 saves in the North Country nets.
The Saints will host Jamestown Community College-Cattaraugus on Sunday.
