SCHENECTADY — The Plattsburgh State women’s tennis team had its woes continue as the Cardinals suffered a 9-0 sweep at the hands of Union College in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon.
Plattsburgh dropped to 1-5 on the year with the loss while Union improves to 3-1.
The Cardinals found themselves overpowered in doubles action.
Union’s Mina Hsia and Natalia Pronchick defeated Emily Carlin and Kaitlyn Healy, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles. Janel Weaver and Ally Demeter lost to Margaret Oppenheim and Hayley Lough at No. 3 doubles by the same score. Plattsburgh State’s Meghan Ryan and Jacqueline Ciriello were the Cardinal pair to tally a point in doubles despite an 8-1 loss to Union’s Samantha Muratori and Kathryn Collins at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 singles against Pronchick, Carlin took the first set to a tiebreaker but eventually fell by a score of 7-6(3), 6-2. The Dutchwomen dominated in the remaining singles matches en route to the sweep of the Cardinals.
With just two weeks left in the regular season, the Cardinals look to turn things around on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Castleton at 4 p.m.
