HERKIMER — The Clinton Community College women’s softball team managed just three hits on the day in dropping a 19-0 and 11-1 doubleheader at Herkimer Community College on Sunday.
Alexa DiSpirito struck out six and allowed a fifth-inning single to losing pitcher Andrea La Vien in the opener.
Jessica Patterelli, Samantha Smaldone, Stephanie Siriano and Ashley Sterritt all homered in the first game for the Generals.
In the second game, Herkimer erased a 1-0 deficit and created a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.
“The second game was much easier to watch,” Clinton coach Sam Stoughton said. “We had a 1-0 lead, and they didn’t score until the fourth inning. We made five errors and they wouldn’t have scored those seven runs if we made the plays in the field.”
The Cougars tallied their lone run in the fourth when Emily Cutting singled and Alisha Ducatte followed with a run-scoring triple.
The two wins improved Herkimer’s season record to 12-1.
Clinton is back in action Friday at North Country Community College.
