PLATTSBURGH — It was a long day at the ballpark for the Clinton Community College baseball team Thursday in an 18-0 and 12-2 doubleheader loss to Schenectady County Community College at Lefty Wilson Field.
“They’re a lot better than we are,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “And we didn’t play well.”
Landon Church struck out six and allowed two hits in tossing the five-inning shutout in the opener. Joe Marcello then limited the Cougars to three hits in the second game, which also went five innings.
Schenectady tallied seven runs in the first inning of Game 1 and was on its way.
Chris Kalica and Shawn Gibson homered for the Royals in the first game, and Gibson had another home run in the nightcap.
Eric Rock and Chris Roenbeck rapped singles for Clinton in the opener. Roenbeck belted a two-run home run, while Russell Merrill and Rich Tarabulo added singles in the second game.
The losing pitchers were Kristian Sherman and Jamie Davison.
The Cougars are at Herkimer Community College on Saturday.
