Clinton men, women capture wins

---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College men’s soccer team was at the top of its game Saturday night in a 4-0 victory over Jefferson Community College at the Field House Soccer Complex.

The Cougars scored two goals in each half on the way to improving their overall record to 12-5 and region mark to 10-3.

“This was probably our best game of the season,” said Clinton coach Zac Eppler. “Jefferson’s record isn’t what it usually is, but they are a good team.

“The last three of four games, we have possessed the ball at a 70-30 advantage. Tonight was more of the same.”

Ryan Lee opened the scoring, off a Jamie Davision assist, with 5:17 gone in the first half. Then, with 1:44 remaining in the half, Jordan Knight made it 2-0 with Matt Leta assisting.

The Cougars broke it open with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Davison tallied from Lee at 4:07 and Leta closed out the scoring from Knight at the 9:22 mark.

“Kaleb Snide played very well for us at stopper,” said Eppler. “Jordan Knight and Jamie Davison put a lot of pressure on up top and Matthew Follett had a strong game at right midfield.”

Clinton finished with an 11-3 shot advantage and Travis Agoney finished with three saves to post the shutout.

“I can’t complain about anything tonight,” said Eppler.

PLATTSBURGH — Tiarra Spencer and Raquel Fowler scored goals less than two minutes apart in the second half Saturday as the Clinton Community College women’s soccer team broke loose for a 4-0 victory over Jefferson Community College at the Field House Soccer Complex.

“We started out a little slowly, but still played pretty well in the first half,” said Clinton coach Donna Dixon. “We weren’t as aggressive to the ball. But, once we got rolling in the second half, we were tough to stop.

“Jefferson is a good team — they came in with a 9-4 record and were ahead of us in the rankings. So it was a big win for us.”

Katrina Garrand, with Kiley Wilkins assisting, gave the Cougars the lead for good with 26:34 gone in the first half.

It stayed that way until Spencer tallied from Wilkins at 27:07 and then Fowler off a Spencer assist at the 28:57 mark to make it 3-0.

Brianna Mashtare added the Cougars’ final goal, with Fowler assisting, with 2:46 left in regulation.

“We were able to possess the ball and had a lot of passing combinations,” said Dixon. “We started clicking. And defensively, as a whole, we played very well.”

Emily Schultz recorded the shutout in net for the Cougars with seven saves. Clinton held a 17-7 shot advantage.

The Cougars (7-5-2) close out their regular season on Wednesday with a game at North Country Community College.
