Cardinals remain unbeaten in lacrosse

---- — DANBURY, Conn. — The Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team continues on its roll.

The Cardinals, with Brendan Damm and Joey Kramer each collecting four goals and an assist, breezed to an 18-2 rout of Western Connecticut State in non-conference play on Saturday night.

Plattsburgh improved to 6-0 on the season. The Cardinals have outscored their opponents by a combined 92-26 margin thus far.

Plattsburgh did a good job at both ends of the field in the first half, taking a 4-0 advantage after one period and a 9-0 edge at the half.

It became 15-1 after three as the Cardinals substituted freely, using 32 players in all.

James Higgins, Brett McClelland and Brendan Cefalu added two goals each for Plattsburgh, with Higgins also getting an assist. Tom Duggan, Anthony Pafundi, Matt Renko and Qusam Caldwell chipped in with a goal apiece. Tim Lawrence assisted on three goals and John Olsen on two.

The Cardinals used four goaltenders — Gordie Gehring, Eric Howard, Chris Guzzetta and Joe Mantovani — who combined for 11 saves.

Christian Bonilla and Nate Wilson scored the lone goals for the Colonials (4-2), who were outshot by a 60-28 margin.

Plattsburgh held a 47-35 advantage in ground balls, was 23-of-29 on clears and won 16-of-24 face offs. The Cardinals were also lethal in man-up opportunities, going four-of-five.

Plattsburgh returns to action on Wednesday at Johns Hopkins College in Maryland where it will play Connecticut College at 4:30 p.m.
