HOCKEY
Sophomore forward Kelley Steadman (Plattsburgh/Northwood School) of top-ranked Mercyhurst College has been named College Hockey America Player of the Week for her role in the Lakers' 1-0-1 weekend at Niagara.

Steadman scored a goal and added two assists as the Lakers took over first place in the CHA standings. In Friday's 2-2 draw, she assisted on the goal that gave Mercyhurst a 2-1 lead. She then set up the game-winner and added an empty-netter in Saturday's 2-0 win. Steadman finished the weekend with seven shots on goal and a +2 rating.

For the season, Steadman has six goals and three assists in 12 games with a +9 rating.

The Lakers, 10-1-1, had eight first-place votes and 141 points, just ahead of Minnesota, 138, and Clarkson, 107. Mercyhurst hosts Colgate for a two-game series this weekend.

Senior forward Jason Williams (Plattsburgh/New Hampshire Junior Monarchs) has three goals and two assists in 12 games for Colgate University. Williams had two points in a 3-3 draw with 11th-ranked Yale in New Haven, Conn. Williams had a shorthanded goal in the first period and assisted on the Red Raiders' third goal.

The night before, opened the scoring in Colgate's 5-3 victory over Brown.

Football
Sophomore cornerback Alec Currier (Peru/Peru) ranked among the top three in defense for the Alfred University Purple Saxons (8-2, 4-1 Empire 8). The football team ended its season with a loss to visiting Albright, 35-25, in a first-round NCAA Division III championship game last weekend.

Currier appeared in all 10 games, recording 35 solo tackles and 25 assisted tackles for a total of 47.5, which was third best among the Saxons. He also had three interceptions with 25 return yards.

Freshman tackle Bryan Tedford (Saranac/Saranac) appeared in four games for Alfred, recording one solo tackle and two unassisted stops.

Sophomore Andrew McCormick (Peru/Peru) led SUNY Brockport in kick returns with 27 for 620 yards, an average of 23.0 an attempt. His longest runback went for 54 yards. He also finished fourth in rushing with 153 yards on 30 carries with one touchdown. His longest run was for 32 yards. McCormick finished third among the Golden Eagles in all-purpose yards with 775. In the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), he ranked eighth in kick returns and 10th in all purpose yards..

Basketball
Freshman Matt Farbotko (Champlain/Northeastern Clinton) of Sage College of Albany made the men's basketball Div. III Skyline Conference Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 22. He averaged 14.0 pts (61.9 percent shooting) and 9.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Gators.

Jon Wolleben (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh) has been named co-captain of the Carnegie Mellon Tartan basketball team. He averaged 6 points and 4 rebounds for the Tartans' first three games. Wolleben is completing the second year of a Masters in Biotechnology Management at the Tepper School of Business.

Cross country
Sophomore Mary Kate Champagne (Plattsburgh/Seton Catholic) of Providence College finished 105th Monday in the NCAA Cross-Country Championships. She had a time of 21:21 for the 6,000-meter race. The Providence women, ranked 21st, finished 11th out of 31 teams.

Champagne, a three-time state champion, missed the spring track season with a stress fracture. She ran her first race in eight months at the Notre Dame Invitational, finishing 93rd out of 178 runners. In her next race, Champagne won the Central Connecticut Mini Meet Oct. 24 in New Britain, Conn. in a course-record time of 10:08.65 for 3K. She was chosen Providence College Athlete of the Week for Oct. 24.

Freshman Genna Hartung (Morrisonville/Seton Catholic) capped a terrific rookie season at Cornell University with a 24th-place finish in the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Boston. She was timed in 22:56, earning All-Region honors for her efforts. Hartung set a Cornell Moakley Course record of 18:21.9 in September.

Soccer
Sophomore Rian Jock (Altona/Beekmantown) scored the insurance goal for the Geneseo Blue Knights in their 2-0 victory over the fourth-seeded Buffalo State Bengals in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament. It was her second goal of the season. Brother Michael Jock (Altona/Beekmantown) finished his varsity career for the Cortland Red Dragons as a defender. The senior captain played in 67 games, finishing with 10 points on 4 goals and 2 assists.
