SARANAC LAKE — The North Country men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season, an 86-69 decision over Fulton-Montgomery Community College Sunday.

"I just thought it was a total team effort," Saints coach Chad LaDue said. "We played 13 guys, everyone did their job, played well. It's a step forward for us."

Tony Sparkman scored a game-high 24 for the Saints (1-2, 1-1 MVC). Clinton Foster scored 23, including seven 3-point field goals.

Sparkman and Foster helped the Saints build up a 50-36 halftime lead. In the first half, Foster connected on six shots behind the arc, while Sparkman scored 13 points.

Kairo Rochford led Fulton-Montgomery with 16 points.

North Country returns to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when they travel to take on Hudson Valley Community College.

SARANAC LAKE — The North Country women's basketball team was unable to hold a 10-point halftime lead, falling to Fulton-Montgomery Community College, 67-64, Sunday.

Valerie Patterson scored a team-high 21 points for the Lady Raiders, while Dominique Griffin chipped in 19.

"We just really didn't push the ball in the second half like we wanted to," Saints coach Jerrad Dumont said. "They ran on us in the second half and we can't let that happen. We didn't really match up and find our men in the second half."

Olga Garcia scored a game-high 22 for the Saints (1-1) and Octavia Daye tallied 20.

The Saints play again Friday at Paul Smith's at 7 p.m.
