Boxing
Anna Dwyer (Keene/Keene Central) has been participating in the women's boxing program at the University of Notre Dame for the last two years. In the fall as a junior, she will be one of the captains of the women's boxing program, the only women's boxing program at a university in the United States that is not a military academy. Anna also was awarded a full scholarship for this summer to attend a five-week Irish language immersion program in Galway, Ireland. She has also been accepted for the spring semester program in Uganda which focuses on the transition to democracy.

Rowing
Peter Dwyer (Keene/Keene Central) was a member of the freshman heavyweight crew team at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Peter has also been selected to attend the 2009 US National Team Freshman Camp sponsored by U.S. Rowing, which is a camp for athletes with elite-level potential and aspirations who are freshman in college or have only one or two years of rowing experience.



Baseball
Ticonderoga's Tom Jebb was among those baseball athletes recognized by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) head baseball coach Karl Steffen. The Bob Ducatte Award, given to the Team MVP, went to Jebb, a junior who led the Red Hawks to a 36-9 record after taking over as the starting shortstop. Jebb hit .333 (50 for 150) with nine doubles, two home runs and 27 runs batted in. The former Ticonderoga High School standout was also 8 for 11 on stolen base attempts.

Junior pitcher John Dreimiller (Ticonderoga/Ticonderoga) appeared in 12 games, including 11 as a starter for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He finished with a 2-0 record and a 4.07 earned-run average. Dreimiller had 45 strikeouts in 48.2 innings while allowing just 19 walks. He had one complete game. He pitched a four-hitter with 8 strikeouts in a victory over St. Lawrence University and tossed a 3-hitter with six strikeouts against Skidmore. Dreimiller also was a Liberty League All-Academic.

Senior right-hander Jeremiah St. Louis (Tupper Lake/Tupper Lake) and junior catcher/designated hitter Derek Marshall (Malone/Franklin Academy) of The College of Saint Rose baseball team were named to the Northeast-10 All-Conference team.

St. Louis led the Saint Rose staff with a 5-3 record and a 2.15 ERA this season. He also recorded 89 strikeouts in 71.0 innings of work. St. Louis concluded his career fourth all-time in school annals with 270 strikeouts and third with 285 innings pitched. St. Louis also faced 1,255 batters; more than any other player in Golden Knights history.

Marshall was the squad's second leading hitter behind a .306 batting average (48-for-157). He also scored 27 runs, drove in 24 and slugged .414. Marshall registered multiple-hits on 16 occasions this year, which was tied with Price and Carbone for most on the team.

Softball
Sophomore team captain Laura Olcott (Ticonderoga/Ticonderoga) led the Genesee Community College Lady Cougars to a 19-17 season, 16-9 in WNYAC play. She finished the season with a 2.25 earned-run average, striking out 97 batters in 115 innings pitched.

Juliann Mandy (Ticonderoga) of SUNY Cobleskill has been a starting right-fielder for the Lady Tigers softball team. The freshm started all 25 games and had a batting average of .375 with 13 runs-batted-in and 15 stolen bases.



Golf
Sophomore senation Katelyn Mannix (Plattsburgh/Beekmantown) captured the individual championship in leading the Siena College women's golf team to its ninth consecutive MAAC Championship at the Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Fla. Siena held off challenger Fairfield by three strokes to win the crown.

Mannix saved her best for last, following up rounds of 80 and 78 with a final round score 74 on Sunday, which was the best single round for any player for the tournament. Mannix, who won MAAC Rookie of the Year last season and is the reigning MAAC Golfer of the Month, captured her second consecutive Charles "Scott" McLeod Award as the individual champion.

Mannix was also one of three Saints named to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Mannix headlined the group with a perfect 4.0 GPA as a biochemistry major.

Mannix also was named Siena College's Leo Dufort Student-Athletes of the Month for March. Mannix has, in just a year and a half on the scene, emerged as arguably one of the best women's golfers in school history. Last season she was named MAAC Rookie of the Year, an NGCA All-American Student Athlete and was the MAAC Championships Individual Champion. Already in her sophomore year she was named the MAAC Golfer of the Month for both September and October.

Track & field
A number of area athletes did well at the New York State Collegiate Championships at St. Lawrence University.

Wendy Pavlus (Tupper Lake/ Tupper Lake), a sophomore at St. Lawrence University, placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:00.03 and first in the 5,000-meter run at 18:27.62 and was named women's track athlete of the meet.

Kyle Devins (Peru/AuSable Valley), a sophomore at Ithaca College placed first in the long jump with a jump of 22' 11.75" and fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 44' 4.25" as the Ithaca men won the state championship.

Heidi Baumbach (Lake Placid/Lake Placid), a freshman at Ithaca College,was a member of the women's 4 x 800-meter relay team that finished second. She was also third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.52. as the Ithaca women also placed first in the meet.

Sean Ross (Ticonderoga/Ticonderoga), a sophomore at Alfred University, placed third in the shot put with a distance of 48' 3.5".

Emily Palmer (Ticonderoga/ Ticonderoga), a freshman at St. Lawrence Universit, placed sixth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 70.15 seconds.

Amanda Maynard (Plattsburgh/Plattsburgh High), a freshman at St. Lawrence University, placed 8th in the high jump with a jump of 5-00'.25".



Lacrosse
Senior Jerica Young (Jay/Northwood School) was one of three Rochester Institute of Techonology lacrosse players to be named to the 2009 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Empire Region team. Young was named to the first team.

Young, a two-time All-Empire 8 first team selection in 2008 and 2009, enjoyed another tremendous season for the Tigers. She finished second on the squad with 47 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers. Young, a co-captain, is second all-time at RIT with 184 career ground balls and seventh with 69 draw controls. She was the first Tiger non-goalkeeper to earn All-Empire 8 first team honors in consecutive seasons.

RIT had its most successful season in program history, finishing 13-5.

Cross country
Ellen Remillard (Peru/Peru) was named the Most Valuable on the D'Youville women's cross-country team for 2008-09. Remillard became the first-ever D'Youville runner to record a top-10 finish at the Northeastern Athletic Conference championship, finishing seventh. In seven events, the sophomore recorded the team's top time in four of eight events.

Awards
Six area athletes earned SUNY Potsdam accolades at the end of the school year:

Senior Sammie Pickering (Tupper Lake/Tupper Lake) was named the Most Valuable Player in women's volleyball at SUNY Potsdam. Pickering was previously named to the All-SUNYAC team.

Sarah Rasco (Cadyville/Saranac) was the women's cross-country MVP at SUNY Potsdam.

Freshman Kate Matthews (Malone/Franklin Academy) was the MVP in women's swimming & Diving.

Brendan Graney (Ticonderoga/Ticonderoga) was chosen MVP for men's basketball while fellow senior Brandon Siskavich (Peru/Peru) received the Coaches Award.

Ryan McHugh (Lake Clear/Saranac Lake) was the lacrosse MVP.

Freshman Danielle Tierney (Champlain/Northeastern Clinton) was selected for the Coaches' Award in softball.

Tennis
Sophomore Joseph Higgins (Peru/Peru) finished 2-1 in singles play for the Oneonta State men's tennis team, which went 16-4. The Red Dragons also went undefeated in the Northeastern Athletic Conference and captured the NEAC team tournament championship.
