---- — Davis wins club championship at The Barracks

PLATTSBURGH — Going into the final round of The Barracks Club Championships, Matt Davis was three strokes behind leaders Bill Fisher and Josh Hlaing and one stroke behind former club champion Chuck Voorhees.

Davis put together a 37 on the front nine to go one up on the field at the turn and carded a 37 on the back for a 74 for a five-stroke victory (238) in the Men’s Championship Flight. Fisher was second with a 243 and Voorhees third with a 244.

In the A Flight, Larry Brown birdied the 18th hole to break a five-golfer log jam and finish with a 249 total and the title over second-place Frank Irwin in a tie-breaker and Dave Vivian in third.

Bruce Lawson captured his first tournament in the B Flight with a three-day score of 253. Bob Wieworka and Mike Lonergan finished second and third, respectively, at 259, with Wieworka finishing second in a tie-breaker.

In the Senior Division, Richard Garrant and Dave Durham finished tied for first place, but Garrant won the tie-breaker for his first championship. Mike Kiernan finished in third place.

Suzy Stefanick won the overall low gross with a 149 to become The Barracks Women’s Club Champion. In the net division, Mary Weaver captured first place with a 140, while Jackie Walker was second with a 141.

Keysors win playoff title in Dannemora golf league

PLATTSBURGH — Cameron and Jerry Keysor won the league championship in a playoff August 29 in the Dannemora Fun Golf League at Bluff Point Golf Resort. Steve Fuller and Ron LaFountain finished second.

Openings remaining in Hughes golf tournament

PLATTSBURGH — The Peru Lions Club still has some openings for its Stan Hughes Golf Tournament on Sunday, September 8. The format is a four-person scramble.

Northern Devils softball holding tryouts

MORRISONVILLE — The Northern Devils will be holding tryouts for their 14U and 18U softball teams on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Town Hall in Morrisonville.

Algonquin Chapter of the ADK to hold outings

PLATTSBURGH — On Wednesday, September 11, join the Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club on a paddle to Crab Island from Cliff Haven with your own canoe or kayak (weather permitting) to The Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration on the island. The leader is Jim Bailey, 563-5794.

On Thursday, September 12, join the ADK for a bike ride from Point au Roche to Coopersville and return trip. This is flat and easy. The leader is Bill Laundrie, 561-5681.

On Sunday, September 15, climb Hurricane Mountain from the Keene side. This is considered moderate. The leader is Claire Velsey, 236-6646.

Hunter Education Bow Class scheduled

PORT HENRY — A Hunter Education Bow Class is scheduled for 6 p.m to 10 p.m. on September 20 and from 8 a.m. until finished on September 21 at Moriah Central School. Candidates must attend both days and pre-registration is required.

Fun Run Series starting Sept. 9

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host a Fall Fun Run Series. Races will begin at Cumberland Bay State Park in Plattsburgh. The runs will take place Mondays, Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7; registration begins at 5 p.m. and runs start at 5:15 p.m.

Six and under will be running a ¼-mile distance. Ages 7-10 will be running a ½-mile distance. Ages 11-14 will be running a mile distance and parents are also invited to run the mile.

All events are free and there will be warm-up stretching and running tips for the participants. Awards will be handed out during the final fun run. For further information on this event, call the Clinton County Youth Bureau at 565-4750.
