---- — Final request for coaching forms

PLATTSBURGH — The fall 2013 season begins Thursday and there are still many coaching forms that the Press-Republican has not received.

In order to be included in the preview for your sport coaching forms need to be in today as early as possible.

The following teams are still missing:

Boys’ soccer: AuSable Valley, Crown Point, Indian Lake/Long Lake, Minerva-Newcomb, Schroon Lake.

Girls’ soccer: Saranac Lake, Chazy, Westport, Crown Point, Keene, Indian Lake/Long Lake, Minerva-Newcomb, Schroon Lake.

Cross country: Seton Catholic.

Volleyball: Plattsburgh, Saranac, Saranac Lake.

Girls’ swimming: Moriah, Peru.

PYH board meeting today

PLATTSBURGH — The next Plattsburgh Youth Hockey (PYH) board meeting will be held today at 6:30 p.m. at Primelink. It is a general membership meeting and is open to the public.

Fun Run Series starting Sept. 9

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host a Fall Fun Run Series. Races will begin at Cumberland Bay State Park in Plattsburgh. The runs will take place Mondays, Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7; registration begins at 5 p.m. and runs start at 5:15 p.m.

Six and under will be running a ¼-mile distance. Ages 7-10 will be running a ½-mile distance. Ages 11-14 will be running a mile distance and parents are also invited to run the mile.

All events are free and there will be warm-up stretching and running tips for the participants. Awards will be handed out during the final fun run. For further information on this event, call the Clinton County Youth Bureau at 565-4750.

Archilla gains men’s soccer honors

CORTLAND — Alexis Archilla of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 2.

Archilla made an immediate impact in his first weekend of collegiate competition, scoring three goals and an assist as Plattsburgh State won the Potsdam Collegiate Village Cup title.

After adding an assist on the Cardinals’ first goal in Friday’s game, Archilla scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime to give Plattsburgh a 2-1 win over Rutgers-Newark. The Warwick, N.Y. native added two more goals, including the game-winner, on Saturday in a 6-0 shutout against Lyndon State. With seven points on the weekend, Archilla was name the Collegiate Village Cup Most Valuable Player.

Fans will get their first opportunity to see Archilla and the rest of the 2013 squad Wednesday as the Cardinals make their home debut against the Norwich Cadets at 7 p.m. under the lights of the Field House Turf Complex.

‘Meet the Cards’ Sept. 21

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will be sponsoring a ‘Meet the Cardinal Soccer Teams’ event on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House. The women’s game starts at 1 p.m. and the men’s game will start at 3:30 p.m. Both will feature the Plattsburgh State Cardinals taking on Skidmore.

Youth attending these games are encouraged to wear their team jersey, The first 50 youth to attend each game with their team jersey will receive a ‘Go Cards’ wrist band. Youth must be accompanied by an adult. Autographs from the players will be available after the game.

Women’s hockey team forming

PLATTSBURGH — A new women’s hockey team is forming in the area. Must be 25 years and up, but all levels are welcome.

The priorities of the team are to have fun and to improve.

Meet at the Ameri-Can Sports Arena on Sept. 9 and Sept. 23 at 7:45 p.m.

Whiteface Foot Race set for Sept. 14

LAKE PLACID — The 36th Annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Foot Race will take place Sept. 14 at 8 a.m.

Racers will run eight miles to the top of the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway.
