---- — Chazy hockey team’s banquet set for Sunday

CHAZY — The Chazy U19 national champion girls’ hockey team will be honored on Sunday at the Rainbow Banquet and Wedding Hall in Altona. The event begins with a meet-and-greet the girls hour from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., followed by a spaghetti dinner at 5:30 p.m.

The program will feature a re-cap of the season and stories from guest speaker Tim Gerrish, a longtime assistant coach for the U.S. women’s national team.

The banquet is open to the public and all area youth hockey players are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $10. For more information, contact Ray Guay, at 578-1231, Willie Giroux, at 593-3600 or Judy Peterson, at 570-7046. RSVP to either Guay or Giroux no later than Saturday at 6 p.m.

Third of a series of fun runs held on Monday

PLATTSBURGH — The third of a series of Plattsburgh Recreation Department’s Fun Runs was held on Monday.

Over 50 runners participated in three races. Delaney Mulholland won the one-quarter run, Zack Engstrom the one-half mile run and Grant Moraveck a fast 6:34 in the mile.

Summer Sports Leagues registration ending soon

PLATTSBURGH — This is the last weekend to register a team or individual for the City of Plattsburgh Summer Sports Leagues. There will be beach volleyball, soccer under the lights at Penfield Park and Adult Summer Basketball. Register at plattsburghrecreation.com.

SAANYS golf tournament at Harmony Golf Course

PORT KENT — The 21st-Annual SAANYS Golf Tournament will be played at the Harmony Golf Course on Sunday, June 14, at noon.

The tournament is a fundraiser for providing scholarships to graduating seniors planning to attend college. All students from the CEWW and FEH BOCES are eligible.

Tour de Rand Hill set for July 20

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA’s 9th-Annual Tour de Rand Hill Bike Race is scheduled for Saturday, July 20. This is a 14-mile uphill race from the YMCA to Camp Jericho.

Youth bureau to host basketball tournament

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host the 2013 Thomas J. O’Connor Memorial “Summer Hoops for Youth” 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, June 26 at the Dock Street Parking Lot located behind the Train Station in Plattsburgh.

Registration will be accepted through June 21. There is no charge to participate in this double-elimination tournament. Team check-in is from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. and games will begin at 10 a.m. Awards will be presented to the top three teams in each age group as follows: boys/girls 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, & 16-18 years of age. Co-ed teams and substitutions are not permitted.

To pre-register, submit an entry form with birth certificates and parental signatures to the youth bureau. Or go to www.clintoncountygov.com and click on Youth Bureau to print off a registration form. Complete it and return it to the youth bureau with all supporting documentation.

Lumber Jills to host spaghetti dinner

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Lumber Jills will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, June 22 at the Cue Club (formerly known as the Burgundy Room). The event will take place between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.

For $10 per person, guests can enjoy a plate full of spaghetti with homemade sauce, a garden salad, and garlic bread. There will be a choice of meat sauce or non-meat sauce for all of our vegetarian friends. The Cue Club is located at 770 State Route 3.

All proceeds from this event will help the Lumber Jills travel this summer to Cortland, Keene, N.H., and Worcester, Ma. to play against local teams. Just recently, the Lumber Jills successfully battled the Herculadies, of Troy, and are now ready to start their summer travel schedule.

The Lumber Jills won’t keep their local fans waiting for long though, and will return to play in Plattsburgh on September 28 against the Queen City Roller girls from Buffalo.

Hikers compete in Saranac Lake 6er

SARANAC LAKE — Intrepid hikers from many states, Quebec and as far away as Australia participated in the first day of the Saranac Lake 6er on Wednesday, with the goal of climbing the six Adirondack Mountains surrounding Saranac Lake.

Snow, rain, wind, cold temperatures and high streams were met and conquered by a number of the climbers, Ultra 6ers, who completed the 30+ mile challenge in one day. The first recorded finishers were: 1, Loring Porter, 6:22 p.m.; 2, Bethany Gattetson, 7:08 p.m.; 3, Mallory Gattetson, 7:08 p.m.; 4, David Gomlalz, 7:40 p.m.; 5, Caleb Strong, 7:51 p.m.; 6, Kyle Dash, 8:22 p.m.; and 7, Jeremy Evans, 9:16 p.m.

Youth Fun Run series wraps up Monday

PLATTSBURGH — The final City of Plattsburgh Youth Fun Run will be held Monday, June 10. Registration will take place inside the Recreation Center Gymnasium at 4:45 p.m. with pre-run stretching and tips from Jack and Gayle Wilson at 5 p.m. The races will be held on the Terry Gordon Bike Path behind the Gym at 5:15 p.m. for the following distances: quarter-mile (ages 6 and under), half-mile (7 to 10) and one mile (11 to 14). Runners will receive a healthy snack, ribbon and certificate of participation. This is a free program for everyone.

Beauharnois has fastest time in bike trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Bruce Beauharnois turned out the fastest time of the night in the weekly bicycle time trials with a 21:55 in the 10-mile event followed by Jack Piller, 23:24 and Jerry Macner 24:42. Mary Duprey had the fastest time for the women with a time of 25:10 followed by Lynne Murray, 27:00 and Alicia Chase 28:01.

In the 5-mile event Micael Nash posted a time of 16:46. Twenty-five riders participated in the fourth event of the year. The time trials are in their 40th season and take place on Wednesday nights at the Point. au Roche firehouse on the Lakeshore Rd. The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory and all riders must obey the rules of the road. Sign up starts around 5:30 p.m., with the first rider going out at 6 p.m.. Riders interested in the 25 mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30 & 5:45.

Race 4 Care 5K in Schroon Lake July 20

SCHROON LAKE — Race 4 Care to benefit High Peaks Hospice & Palliative Care will take place on July 20th in Schroon Lake. Race day registration and sign-up begins at 8 a.m., and the race will start at 9 a.m. Race route TBD. Pre-registration fee is $20 per person or $25 per person the day of the race. This is a timed 5K race for the serious runner, but all runners and walkers are welcome.
