Elks to Host Jr. Golf Tournament set
ROUSES POINT — The Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks will host their annual Junior Golf Tournament at the North Country Golf Club in Rouses Point Aug. 1.
Tee times will be begin promptly at 9 a.m.
The tournament will consist of three flights for both boys’ and girls’: 12-14, 15-16 and 17-18.
All Section VII students are eligible to compete. Prior sign-up is not necessary, but participants are requested to be at the course by 8:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $10, which includes golf, lunch, tournament tag and prizes.
Tiger Sportsman 100 at Thunder Road set for Thursday
BARRE, Vt. — The stars of Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., are preparing for a busy August schedule, set to begin Aug. 1 with VP Racing Fuels Night. The Tiger Sportsmen will battle in a special 100-lap event along with regular events for the Late Models and Street Stocks.
The hunt for the Tiger Sportsmen crown has reached an all-new intensity heading into Thursday’s VP Racing Fuels 100. The top-five drivers are separated by just 36 points after last week’s double-points night.
Two-time Tiger champion Shawn Fleury currently leads the way, but Eric Badore, Jason Allen, Jason Woodard and Brendan Moodie all remain within striking distance of their first career title.
The month of August has become a huge month for the 2013 championship battles due to the rescheduling of two previously rained out events.
The Barre quarter-mile will host a total of seven events from Aug. 1 through the Aug. 22, with six of them being point races for the Late Models and Tigers. The Street Stocks will run for points in all seven events as they will hold their yearly special 50-lapper on M&M Beverage Enduro night Aug. 11.
Thursday’s post time is 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $20 for a family ticket (two adults and two kids).

St. Peter’s Golf Tournament Aug. 8
PERU — The 18th Annual St. Peter’s Golf Tournament to benefit the youth program at Camp Guggeheim is scheduled Aug. 8th with a 12:30 p.m. “shotgun” start at Adirondack Golf Course in Peru.
The tournament is a full scramble format with teams of four organized by participants.
All are welcome and co-ed teams are encouraged, but not required. The event includes an awards dinner (buffet) that follows the tournament play at the Club House. Participants may choose not to dine which is an option.

NAC Bobcat Open Golf Tournament to be held Aug. 13
PERU — The Northern Adirondack Central Bobcat Open Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 13 at the Harmony Golf Club.
It is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost is $55 for non-members and $45 for members and includes golf with a cart, meal and awards at the conclusion of play.
The tournament benefits the Northern Adirondack boys’ basketball program.

CCYB Soccer needs referees
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau Soccer Program is in need of referees for its upcoming season, which runs Aug. 31 to Oct. 12.
General knowledge of the rules, playing experience and experience working with children desired.
The pay is $18 to $25 per game. Referees will be hired to officiate games at the Mites, Pee Wee and Bantam levels. Applicants must be 14 years of age or older and must attend one clinic.
All coordinators and youth coaches are encouraged to recruit potential soccer referees to attend and ask questions regarding rules and learn more about officiating soccer.

Champlain hosts 5K Run/Walk
CHAMPLAIN — The Village of Champlain will be hosting a 5K run/walk Aug. 17 at 8 a.m.
This is a free event and shirts will be given to the first 20 participants.
Registration will take place in the River Park off of Elm St. beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Rally for the Lake 5K Run-Walk
MERRILL — A Rally for the Lake 5K run and one-mile walk, ending with a cookout on the shores of Camp Jeanne d’Arc will occur Aug. 17.
Adult admission is $20, youth $15 and children $5. Prices go up $5 after Aug. 14.
Cookout only: adult and youth $10, children $5 and kids under the age of five years old are free.
A free t-shirt will be given to the first 100 registrants.
