PLATTSBURGH — The duo of Ernie Rock and Hank Puding combined to defeat Ron Spear and Bob Montefusco to win the overall championship in the Tuesday Men’s Golf League at The Barracks Golf Course.
There were 36 two-man teams that took part in the league, which has 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. starting times.
PFC holding soccer tryouts
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh F.C. Soccer club is holding tryouts for the 2013 outdoor travel seasons.
The tryouts will be held on Oct. 21 and Oct. 28 at the Plattsburgh State Field House.
All players are requested to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled time.
Tryouts are open to all current PFC players and any new members interested in joining. There is no fee for the tryout sessions. Any player attending tryouts must submit a registration form which is available at www.plattsburghfc.com. For any questions contact Andrew Wylie at email@example.com.
The U16 and U18 divisions will hold tryouts after the high school season is over.
The rest of the schedule is as follows: U10 boys and girls (eight or nine years old on July 31, 2012) from 2-3 p.m. U12 boys and girls (10 or 11 years old on July 31, 2012) 3-4 p.m. U14 boys and girls (12 or 13 years old on July 31, 2012) 4-5 p.m.
Youth pheasant hunt/skeet practice scheduled
WILLSBORO — The Willsboro Fish and Game will host a pheasant hunt for youths 12 to 15 years old Sept. 29 and 30. Those participating will need a 2011-12 small-game license. One week prior to the hunt, Willsboro Fish and Game is holding a skeet practice Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. All are invited to the practice. Halloween golf tournament at The Barracks Oct. 7
PLATTSBURGH — Mike Dodds’ 21st annual Halloween Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, Oct. 7 at The Barracks Golf Course. There will be $1,000 in cash and prizes.
The tournament is a four-person scramble with team handicap divided by eight. There will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Entry fee is $55 for non-members and $40 for members and includes greens fees, cart, beverages, pizza and prizes. Prizes for best team costume and individual costume will also be awarded.
This year’s tournament will benefit the Christmas Bureau and Toys for Tots. All participants are asked to bring a toy. Entries close Oct. 5.
Rod and gun club to hold air rifle match
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club, located on Route 9, will be sponsoring an NRA Air Rifle Match on Thursday, September 27. All equipment needed to compete is available for loan. Relay times are 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and the cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Paralympic medalist to speak at PSU
PLATTSBURGH — Jason Regier, a quadriplegic who competes on the U.S. Quad Rugby team, is speaking at his “Getting Back into the Game (and Smashing Stereotypes Along the Way)” Sept. 26 from 8 to 9:30 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms of the Angell College Center at Plattsburgh State. Regier will talk about his experience as a two-time Paralympic medalist and the importance of living life to the fullest.
Girard’s Electric Shockers wins C Division title
WEST PLATTSBURGH — Kyle Rock and John Livsey both went 4-for-4 with a double as Girard’s Electric Shockers completed a four-game sweep of Shumway Insurance in the C Division of the Adirondack Slo-Pitch Softball League. James Girard was the winning pitcher. The Shockers’ Ryan Bishop was chosen as the series’ Most Valuable Player after hitting 17 home runs in the post season. Bishop finished the year with 45 total home runs. Shumway Insurance entered the playoffs as the top seed and defeated North Line Utilities/VFW Post 309 to reach the championship round.
Kellet named new GM for Whiteface
WILMINGTON — The Olympic Reagional Development Authority has named Aaron Kellet as the new general manager of Whiteface. He is replacing Bruce McCully.
Kellet graduated from Plattsburgh State in 2009 and began working at whiteface in 2000. Within five years he was promoted to terrain park and half-pipe manager. In 2009 he became the assistant general manager.
“I am extremely honored to accept the new position and excited to help guide whiteface into the future,” Kellet said. “Being the GM of Whiteface has been a dream of mine since the first time I skied down Cloudspin in the early 90’s. Thanks, to everyone who has supported me along the way.”
Laura Garfield was also named Whitface Mountain’s new sales and marketing manager. Joe Shoemaker will take over her previous position of group sales.
K of C will sponsor Soccer Challenge Oct. 6
PLATTSBURGH — Knights of Columbus #13127 is sponsoring a boys and girls soccer challenge event. The age requirement is 10-14 years of age. Age eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of Sept. 1, 2012. Proof of age is required. It will be held on Oct. 6 and take place at the Seton Catholic soccer field.
