---- — Carpenter memorial golf tourney set for May 24

PLATTSBURGH — The Seton Catholic Booster Club will be holding its annual Carpenter Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, May 24 at The Barracks Golf Course. This is one of Seton Catholic’s major fundraisers of the year.

The format is three-person teams, with four divisions (10 teams per division). The total ages of team members will determine the team’s division. The first-place team in each division will receive a gift.

Saranac to hold alumni baseball tourney

SARANAC — Saranac Central School will be holding an alumni baseball game at noon on Sunday, May 26 in memory of Muggsy Favro.

Former Saranac players from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s are invited to take part. Father/son or brother/brother combinations are encouraged to participate in what should be a day of fun. There will be a concession stand in use.

The event is being used as a fundraiser by the Saranac Booster Club for the Muggsy Favro Scholarship Fund. For more information, or to express your desire to play in the game, contact Saranac varsity baseball coach Frank Trudeau on his Facebook page or call 293-7027.

Willsboro fishing derby, turkey shoot set

WILLSBORO — The Willsboro Fish and Game Club will hold its Annual Youth Fishing Derby Saturday with prizes for various age groups, 15 years and under.

Also, the final turkey shoot will be held Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

Stick ‘n’ puck schedule announced

PLATTSBURGH — Ameri-Can North Sports Center has announced its stick ‘n’ puck and public skating schedule.

Stick ‘n’ puck will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on May 17 and from 3:30-5 p.m. on May 19. There will be public skating available from 2-3:30 p.m. on May 19.

Free kayak trip offered in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a free kayaking trip for any adult in the Town of Plattsburgh.

The trip will be held May 30 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. It will start in Saranac at Picketts Corners Park and travel 6.3 miles down the river to the Cadyville Beach.

The trip will take approximately three hours. All equipment will be provided to those who need it and those with their own equipment are welcomed to join on the leisurely paddle.

Space is limited for these programs.

All participants must pre-register prior to the trip and can do so by stopping by or calling the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department at 151 Banker Rd or 562-6860.

Plattsburgh Soccer Camp announces 3 sessions

PLATTSBURGH — There will be three sessions of the Plattsburgh Soccer Camp this summer.

Session 1 will be held from 9 to 11 a.m July 8 to 12 for players ages 4 to 6. The cost is $80. Session 2 will be for ages 6 to12 and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 22 to 26. The cost is $100. Session 3, for ages 13 to 18, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 22 to 26. The cost is $100.

Peru Big Blue Hoop Camp announces schedule

PERU — The Peru Big Blue Hoop Camp, open to all boys and girls entering grades 3 through 10, will be held June 24 to 28. It will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.

The cost of the camp is $100 per camper for early registration by June 1 and $110 for registrations postmarked thereafter. The camp will be held at the Peru Central School Districts facilities. Hughes Memorial golf tourney May 25-26

PORT HENRY — The Moriah Country Club will host the Art Hughes Sr. and Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament May 25-26. The format is a two-person, 36-hole scramble with teams flighted after Saturday play.

Entry fees are $65 for members and $85 for non-members and include practice round Friday, continental breakfast both days, dinner and a live Saturday night.

Shaughnessy granted NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Pat Shaughnessy, who was a member of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer and baseball teams, has been granted an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship — an award given three times a year to student-athletes who exhibit academic and athletic excellence.

Shaughnessy is one of 58 NCAA 2012-13 fall sports postgraduate scholarship winners, with 29 male and 29 female student-athletes each receiving $7,500. Similar awards are given to winter and spring student-athletes, totaling 174 individual winners each year.

A Plattsburgh native, Shaughnessy was a standout on the soccer field from 2009 to 2012. He enjoyed a career year as a senior and was named to the NSCAA All-East Region First Team, earned NSCAA Scholar All-American accolades and was selected to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team. His 42 career goals tie him for fourth all-time in program history.

Shaughnessy will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education and a minor in coaching.

To qualify, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in or have just completed their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution’s faculty athletics representative.

Malone Women’s Slo-Pitch League starts Monday

MALONE — The Malone Women’s Slo-Pitch League will begin play Monday, May 20, with 13 teams entered. Games in May and June will be played at the AMVETS, with some games being played at Malone Rec Park in July.

The first week’s schedule is as follows; Field 1 is the Little League field at the AMVETS and Field 2 is the men’s field.

Alzheimer’s Walk/5K Cross-Country Fun Run June 15

SARANAC LAKE — The Alzheimer’s Walk and 5K Cross-Country Fun Run 2013 will be held at Saranac Lake High School. The event is planned for Saturday, June 15. Registration will be held at 10 a.m. The walk and run will start at 10:30 a.m.

Register as an individual or as a team. For the Fun Run, costumes are admired but not required. Any individual raising $500 or more will be entered to win a grand prize. Every $500 raised means another chance to win. There will be refreshments, prizes and DJ Overneath Productions with Josh and Holly Clement.

This is a recreational walk and run sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center to raise awareness and funds for the Third Age Adult Day Center. The proceeds remain in the community to support programs and services.

High Peaks Mini Tri Series starts June 17

LAKE PLACID — The 2013 High Peaks Mini Triathlon Series will run every Monday night from June 17 to Aug.12. This is the 29th season of one of the longest running triathlon series in the U.S.

Participants should meet at the Mirror Lake Beach Area in Lake Placid. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m., the Pre-race meeting will be at 6:15 p.m. and the races start at 6:30 p.m.

The triathlons consist of a 400-yard swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a three-mile run.

There will be post-race awards and raffle prizes at 8 p.m. There are individual and team categories.

Scholarship Golf Tournament set for June 8

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Moose Lodge #2390 will host its Seventh-Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 8 at the Barracks Golf Course with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

The fee is $55 for Moose members and $60 for nonmembers. A receptions will be held after the tournament at the Moose Lodge, 90 Sharron Ave., Plattsburgh, NY. To reserve a spot, call 563-5632 or stop by the Lodge.

North Bowl Jr./Adult League starts May 22

PLATTSBURGH — The Jr./Adult League will meet May 22 at 6 p.m. at North Bowl Lanes. Bowling will follow at 6:30 p.m.

B’town Booster Club Wrestling Golf Tourney June 15

BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown Booster Club Wrestling Golf Tournament will be held June 15 at the Barracks Golf Course. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start, and the tournament is a four-man scramble with no handicaps. The cost of $65 per person includes golf, cart, food and soda and water. Beer can be purchased at the Pro Shop.

Cavanagh Named SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year

CORTLAND — in his second season Head Coach Ryan Cavangh has been selected as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. Cavanagh becomes the first coach in the 15-year history of the Plattsburgh State lacrosse program to receive the league’s award. Cavanagh and his staff led the Cardinals to a 14-4 record in 2013 and its first appearance in the SUNYAC Championship game against Cortland this past Saturday.

Knights of Columbus tourney June 14

PERU — St. Augustine’s Knights of Columbus Council 7273 will host its 27th-annual golf tournament at the Adirondack Golf and Country Club on June 14. The four-person scramble will feature a “New Car Hole in One” prize sponsored by Bill McBride Chevrolet and other great prizes. The tournament begins with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. and will be followed by an awards dinner in the clubhouse. Spouses are invited to attend the dinner at $15 each. Hospice golf tournament slated for July 13

ROUSES POINT — The 18th-Annual Hospice of the North Country Golf Tournament — formerly the Clinton County/Carol Wallett Memorial Golf Tournament — will be held Saturday, July 13, at the North Country Golf Club. It will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The format is as follows: four-person handicap scramble, men’s and women’s divisions, maximum handicaps (men-24, women-36).

Entry fee includes greens fees, golf cart, prizes, gift bag and a barbecue lunch to follow tournament play.

Fees are $75 per player for non-members and $55 per player for member.

Youth track, field games held

PLATTSBURGH — The annual Local Hershey Track and Field Games for Youth, presented by the Clinton County Youth Bureau, attracted 37 boys’ and girls’ to the Plattsburgh High School Track and Field Complex.

Many of them will advance to compete at the Hershey New York State West Track and Field Finals at Ilion High School June 29.

American Legion Post 1619 hosts Crab Island Memorial Golf Tournament

PLATTSBURGH — The 9th Annual Crab Island Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by The American Legion Post 1619 and Michelob Ultra, will be held July 20 at the Barracks Golf Course.

There will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start. All Proceeds will go to a full scholarship to Clinton Community College.

Registration forms have been mailed to last year’s team captains.

The deadline for the before-mentioned registration and money is June 20.

After June 20, the tournament will be open to the public. A waiting list is welcomed.
