PERU — The team of Chip Dandrow, Barbara Maille, Stephanie Rovers and Gerry Finney took first place Sunday in the Adirondack Golf & Country Club’s closing Apple Ball Tournament. The foursome finished with a 205 score.

The Apple Ball format included the three best net scores for each hole, with 216 as par. Everyone played their own ball and received their handicap strokes on each hole. All players used an apple ball for the entire game, until lost. A special prize drawing was held for those who kept their apple ball for the entire round.

Gale Carroll, Adrian Rovers, Charlie Bainbridge and Christina Seguin came in a close second with a 206. Third place, with a 211, was won by Len Freitas, Tom Loughan, Kathy O’Connor and Barbara McGee.

Katie Gluck and Tom Loughan won the putting contest. Closest to the pin for the men was won by Adrian Rovers on the 14th hole and Pat Loughan for the women on the eighth hole. Closest to the line was won by Stephanie Rovers for the women and Chip Dandrow for the men.

Four teams combined for win eight skins. Gale Carroll, Adrian Rovers, Charlie Bainbridge and Christina Seguin won skins on holes eight, 13 and 14. Jeff Ratliff, Abdia Dashnaw, Olof Franzon and Pat Loughan won skins on holes five and seven, Len Freitas, Tom Loughan, Kathy O’Connor and Barbara McGee on holes two and 15, and Bob Soltero, Tom Wood, Alice Sample and Lena Dashnaw on the ninth hole.

Trophies were awarded to the following Adirondack 2012 club champions: Len Freitas, men’s A Flight; Pat McGinn, men’s B Flight; John Strack, men’s C Flight; Cornelia Forrence, women’s A Flight; and Stephanie Rovers, women’s B Flight. The season-long Women’s Match Play Tournament awards were also presented to winner Stephanie Rovers and runner-up Brenda King.

Adirondack will remain open for as long as the weather permits.

Town of Schuyler Falls to hold youth basketball program

MORRISONVILLE — The Town of Schuyler Falls Recreation Dept. is currently accepting registration for its basketball program. The program is open to youths grades 4 through 6. Registration forms may be picked up at the Town Hall, Rock’s Grocery or Morrisonville Redemption Center. Forms must be completed and returned to the Town Hall by Nov. 15. Mineville VFW

hosting a benefit 9-pin tournament

MINEVILLE — Mineville VFW Lanes is holding a 9-pin bowling tournament Sunday, Oct. 21 to benefit Darcy Morse. The tournament will be a singles event with prizes awarded for the top five finishers. Entry fee is $20 per person and bowlers may sign up for either a noon or 3 p.m. start time. The tournament is benefiting Morse who lost all of her belongings in a house fire earlier this month. Halloween-themed fun run scheduled

CADYVILLE — The Clinton County Youth Bureau and Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will host a Halloween-themed fun run Oct. 30 at the Cadyville Recreation Department. The runs are for youths ages 4 to 13 and their families. Children six and under will participate in a quarter-mile “Pumpkin” run. Those aged 7 to 10 will have a half-mile “Ghost” run while 11 to 13 year olds will have a one-mile “Bat” run.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. with a 4:45 p.m. run start time. Following the runs, participants are invited to stay for Halloween-themed healthy snacks, drinks and games. Participants are also invited to wear Halloween costumes. For more information, call the Clinton County Youth Bureau at 565-4750.

Halloween Hustle

5k and Fun Run

LAKE PLACID — The second annual Halloween Hustle 5k and Kids’ Fun Run to benefit the Barkeater Trails Alliance, will be held Sunday, Oct. 28 at Mt. Van Hoevenberg.

Prizes will be awarded for best costumes, but a costume is not required. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a $5 entry fee for the Fun Run and a $15 fee for the 5k. The Fun Run begins at 10:30 a.m. with the 5k starting at 11 a.m.

The Barkeater Trails Alliance is a non-profit organization working to develop, maintain and advocate for a diverse, sustainable and inter-connected multi-use trail system in the Adirondack Tri-Lakes region.

Plattsburgh FC

Soccer Club holding tryouts Oct. 21, 28

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh FC soccer club will be holding tryouts for the spring 2013 travel program at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse soccer field on Sunday Oct. 21 and 28. The tryouts are for U10, U12, and U14 teams.

All current PFC players and any new players should attend. All players must fill out a registration form and medical release that can be downloaded from

www.plattsburghfc.com.

There is no fee for tryouts and all players should show up 30 minutes prior to the start of their session. Any questions should be emailed to plattsburghfc@aol.com.
