DANNEMORA — Matthew Medeiros outkicked Bryan Wilson to the finish line during the Jail Break Race on Oct. 7.

Medeiros finished in 1:28.08, while Wilson finished just behind in 1:28.5 in the half marathon.

Dan Carey, Jr. finished the full marathon in 4:00.15, while Corey Howe took first in the ultra marathon in 7:18.5, just ahead of Matthew Furnia (7:18.52).

Friends of Point au Roche 5K results

POINT AU ROCHE— Cassie Sellars posted the fastest time with 22:11 while Derek Fessette followed shortly behind recording a 22:14. There were 35 runners competing in the Oct. 7 race. The Friends of Point au Roche sponsored the event and raised over $700 to enhance the Dr. Philip Walker botanical trail at the Point au Roche State Park.

ADK to hold

‘Aftermath of Irene’

PLATTSBURGH — The public is invited to join the Algonquin Chapter of Adirondack Mountain Club on an outing to discover ‘The Aftermath of Irene’ Oct. 20.

Explore the Styles Brook basin, including a hike to nearby Clemens Pond. The outing is considered easy, but with some rough footing.

Leaders for the outing are Anne and Jim Bailey, call 563-5794 by Oct. 18.

Ellenburg scheduled hoops sign ups

ELLENBURG — Ellenburg will be holding girls and boys 3rd-4th and 5th-6th grade basketball sign ups on Oct. 16-17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the elementary school lobby.

Boys who play or plan on playing on Mr. Bilow’s traveling team must sign up on these dates also.

Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame to induct Plattsburgh native

CORTLAND — Jack LaBombard will be inducted into the SUNY Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 20, at the College’s Corey Union. LaBombard is a member of the 1963 graduating class from Cortland. He won three SUNYAC wrestling titles and in his last three seasons he posted a 23-5 record.

He brought his wrestling background to Queensbury in 1966 where he coached the team until his retirement in 1997. He is considered one of the top high school wrestling coaches in New York state history compiling a record of 374-62-6. He coached three individual state champions as well as numerous sectional and league champs. He also coached football and baseball while also initiated the school’s lacrosse program.

His retirement did not last long. He coached at Schuylerville N.Y. High School for two seasons posting a 16-8 record. In 2008 he helped establish a new wrestling program at Lake George High School in conjunction with Hadley-Luzerne High School where he still serves as co-coach.

LaBombard has also been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the New York State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, and the Section Two Wrestling Hall of fame.

Officials Board 43 looking for officials

PLATTSBURGH — Northeastern N.Y. Basketball Officials Board 43 is looking for new officials for the upcoming 2012-2013 High School Basketball season. Any interested person should contact IAABO 43 Interpreter Pete McMillan at 562-1526. There will be a preseason rules clinic for all new and upgrade candidates on Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at Plattsburgh High School. There will also be an organizational meeting on Nov. 4, at 6:30 p.m. for all returning IAABO 43 members.
