Rising Stars Tourney seeks team

CHAMPLAIN — The 4th Annual Rising Stars Tournament, held Feb. 15 and 16, is in need of one more 5th and 6th grade boys’ basketball team.

The team needs to consist of players from the same school district that are entered into 6th grade or lower. The cost is $150.

The event will take place at the Northeastern Clinton High School and Middle School gyms.

PYH collects third tournament of 2014

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Youth Hockey Roadrunners Squirt A team is now 3-for-3 in tournaments this year after winning back-to-back tournaments over the last two weekends.

Over Martin Luther King weekend, the Roadrunners won their own tournament held in Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh defeated St. Albans (VT) and the North Country Cougars in the round robin portion of the tournament before a tough setback to West Island, Que.

The championship game was never in much doubt as Plattsburgh skated to a 4-2 victory over St. Albans.

This past weekend, the Roadrunners traveled to Rutland (VT) where on Saturday, they defeated Saratoga and Central Vermont. On Sunday morning, despite playing extremely well, they closed out the round robin portion of the tournament with a 2-1 loss to host Rutland.

Plattsburgh would soon get its revenge in the afternoon by playing one of its better games of the year and defeating Rutland 3 -0 in the championship game.

The tournament wins continued Plattsburgh’s impressive season and improved their overall record to 26-5-4.

Team members include Hayden Buckley, Thomas Carron, Jake Dandrow, Brandon Diman, Ella Fesette, Ethan Kay, Jake Kennedy, Ryan Knowles, Macen Mero, Blake Moravec, Zach O’Connel, Trent Trahan, Collin Troxell and Ian Zurlo.

SUNYAC selects Driscoll as women’s indoor track Athlete of the Week

CORTLAND — Senior Kelley Driscoll has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women’s indoor track Athlete of the announced by the league office Monday.
