Lake Placid Loppet postponed

LAKE PLACID — Due to the weather conditions, ORDA has decided to postpone the Lake Placid Loppet and Kort Loppet until Saturday, March 8.


First Strike Ice Fishing Derby set for Jan. 25

CLIFTON — According to the Cranberry Lake Fire & Rescue Department, the 2014 First Strike Cranberry Lake Ice Fishing Derby on Jan. 25 is expected to have 10 to 14 inches of ice.

Known for its legendary fishing, Cranberry Lake is the third-largest lake in the Adirondacks and one of the most popular fishing destinations, both summer and winter.

Entry fees are $30 for adults and $10 for the children’s perch derby. Cash prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place for the children’s (12 and under) perch derby. Every child who enters will receive a prize.

In the adult category, up to $800 per hour in prize money will be awarded. In addition to cash prizes, dozens of door prizes will be awarded. Up to $10,000 in total cash and prizes will be awarded during the derby.

Tupperpalooza Warrior Run registration opens Sunday

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce has announced it will host a music festival July 19 at Big Tupper Ski Area to coincide with the Third Annual Tupperpalooza Warrior Run. 

Registration for the Warrior Run will open Jan. 19. The Tupperpalooza Warrior Run is a demanding 3.5-mile race made up of a mix of intense obstacles, treacherous mountain terrain and lots of mud. Participants can compete individually or as a team of three or more.

The complete music program for the day is still a work in progress; however Formula 5 and The Blind Spots have been confirmed.
