Shamrocks, Flyers fall in opening game

AMHERST — The Chazy Flyers U19 girls’ hockey team started defense of its national championship Wednesday.

The Flyers met Keweenaw, Mich., the team they defeated in last season’s championship game. This time around, however, Keweenaw picked up the victory. Keweenaw defeated Chazy 4-0.

The Flyers are back at it today against Naperville, Ill. at 7:15 p.m.

The Vermont Shamrocks U16 team also fell in its opening game. The Shamrocks dropped a 2-1 decision to Baystate, Mass.

Vermont takes on Amherst today at 5:05 p.m.

Lake Champlain Trout Unlimited meeting April 8

PLATTSBURGH — Lake Champlain Trout Unlimited will hold an April meeting. Speakers will feature Brad Young and Mike Calloway of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Essex Junction Vt. office. 

They will be presenting a “State of the Lake” report, with current info on lamprey control, salmon and lake trout population dynamics. Come hear them at the Gander Lodge Room, located in the Gander Mountain store, North Mall, Plattsburgh at 7:00 p.m April 8. The meeting is free and open to all.

Little League baseball  tryout dates changed

PLATTSBURGH — Major League tryout dates have been changed to Friday April 25, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m and Saturday April 26 10 a.m-12:30 p.m. tryouts will be held at Penfield Park.

Major League Rosters will be set on Saturday April 26. Minor League Rosters will be set by Monday April 28. Tryouts were originally scheduled for April 8-10, but field conditions did not permit. For more information, visit

Fun Shoot & Open House

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club will host a fun night of shooting on April 7. The event will be held at the indoor rifle & pistol range. Participants will meet at 6:30 p.m, and will be able to shoot air rifle, air pistol, archery, running boar and sling shot.
