Rough Rider junior target team to practice
PLATTSBURGH — The Rough Riders junior target rifle shooting team will meet for practice at the Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club at 6:15 p.m., Thursday.
New members are always welcome. All equipment is provided at no cost. Individuals wanting to learn more about the junior team or the adult marksmanship team can contact coach Visconti at 298-7776.
Co-ed skaters needed at Scotts’ Rink

Mazdzer 15th in men’s luge singles
ALTENBERG, Germany — Saranac Lake’s Chris Mazdzer helped lead the American luge relay team to a World Cup fifth-place finish Sunday.
The relay team included Mazdzer in men’s singles, Erin Hamlin in women’s singles, and the doubles team of Matt Mortensen, of Huntington Station, and Preston Griffall, a 2006 Olympian from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Earlier in the day, Mazdzer took 15th place in the men’s singles race as German Felix Loch recorded his 12th-career win to lead another medal sweep for the home team. Mazdzer, a 2010 Olympian, had the sixth fastest time in the final heat and is getting closer to exceeding his career best World Cup result to date, a 14th-place finish in 2010.
Paul Smith’s hosts Jingle Bell Snowshoe Race
PAUL SMITHS — The 19th-Annual Jingle Bell Snowshoe 5K and 10K Races were held at Paul Smith’s College Saturday. However, for the second year in a row the event was held as a trail run due to lack of snow. There were 24 participants.
Saranac’s Matt Medeiros paced the men over the 10K with a 40:10. Rounding out the top five were Paul Smith’s College’s Eric Kowalik in 42:16, Oswego’s Ben Harper in 42:46, Paul Smith’s College’s Zach Davidson in 44:03 and Paul Smith’s College’s Tim Grossman in 44:50.
Plattsburgh’s Alexa Cosgro led the women with a time of 55:03, followed by Paul Smith’s College’s Lea Anthony in 57:43.
In the 5K, Eric Hulbert of Mexico, N.Y., finished first for the men in 19:36, followed by Paul Smith’s College’s Louis Ferrone in 20:58 and Paul Smith’s College’s Josh Buchanan in third with a 22:07.
Lake Placid’s Marily Zygo won the women’s 5K in 28:10.
Sixty-eight-year-old Jim Graupner came to the event from Lake Erno, Minn., and finished the 10K in 48:21.
