Beekmantown Elementary Schools to hold race

BEEKMANTOWN — The Beekmantown Elementary Schools’ first annual Soar Like an Eagle, Trot Like a Turkey will be held Saturday, November 25 at the Beekmantown High School entrance. The event will benefit the BES Running Club, the PTO and help raise awareness and money for childhood cancer.

The kids’ one-mile fun run, for ages up to seven, will begin at 8:30 a.m. The 5K race, for ages eight and over, will begin at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $20 prior to Wednesday, November 20 and $25 after November 20. Youth bureau to hold basketball referee clinics

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau Basketball Program is in need of referees for its upcoming grades 3 to 4 and 5 to 6 programs, which run from Jan. 4 through Feb. 22, as well as the grade 7 to 8 program, which runs from March 1 through 22.

General knowledge of the rules, playing experience, and experience working with children is desired. The pay is $18 to $20 per game. Applicants must be 14 years of age or older and must attend one Part 1 and one Part 2 clinic.

The Part 1 clinics will be held at the Old Courthouse Building second floor on Dec. 9, 11, 12, 19 and 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Dec. 23 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Part 2 clinics will be held at Morrisonville Elementary School on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Applicants must bring all of the following: working papers (if applicant is age 17 and under); Social Security card or birth certificate; picture I.D., driver’s license or school report card; and must know their Social Security number.

All coordinators and youth coaches are encouraged to recruit potential basketball referees to attend and ask questions regarding rules and to learn more about officiating basketball. For more information, contact the Youth Bureau at 565-4750.

Paddle tennis clinics being offered

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown Social Center will off beginner paddle tennis clinics for anyone interested in tryout out paddle (platform) tennis.

The clinics will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the social center’s paddle court by the Hale House Nov. 23 and Dec. 7. The clinics are free and no equipment is needed.
