Am-Can Tour invades Airborne Park Speedway

PLATTSBURGH — The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) makes its first of three 2013 appearances at Airborne Park Speedway tonight for the Loreman’s Screen Printing/Aaron’s Late Model 100.

The Ernie’s Discount Tools Modifieds, J&S Steel Sportsman Modifieds, Key R-D Trailer Sales Renegades and Busch Mini-Modifieds are also in action.

Qualifying heats begin at 5 p.m. The event is presented by Haun Welding and EXPLO/EZSTO.

Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown, Vt., enters the night as the ACT point leader — three points ahead of eight-time champion Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt.

Grandstands open at noon. Admission is $17 for adults, while kids 12 and under are admitted free.

Local wrestling club to compete this weekend

LAKE PLACID — The Cellar Dwellers, a local wrestling club, will compete in the Pop and Flo National Duals, being held today and Sunday at the Olympic Center. The local team, which is based in Peru, features 20 youth wrestlers in grades two through eight and 20 high school wrestlers in grades nine through 12. Members of the Cellar Dwellers are from Peru, Saranac, AuSable Valley and Gouverneur.

Wrestling will begin at 8:30 a.m. today and continue throughout the day and also all day on Sunday. Wrestling clubs in the event are from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.


Siberian Rod &Gun Club schedules third shoot

DANNEMORA — The Siberian Rod and Gun Club in Dannemora is having a third shoot May 19.

Sign in starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon with awards scheduled for 3 p.m.

There will be food and beverages. The event is open to the public.

Malone women’s Slo-Pitch League starts Monday

MALONE — The Malone women’s Slo-Pitch League will begin play May 20 with 13 teams entered.
