---- — Double features tonight at Airborne

PLATTSBURGH — Double features for the Busch Mini Modifieds and a vintage stock car exhibition race are among the attractions on tonight’s Airborne schedule, presented by Huntley Trucking, Warren Tires, Northern Cakes and Precision Auto.

Defending DIRTcar Modified champion Todd Stone of Middlebury, Vt., a five-time winner this season in the G. Stone Motors 1x, can clinch the 2013 title with a win. Stone leads prior track champion Leon Gonyo of Chazy, 657-596, with two point races remaining.

The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Limited Late Models will also be in action.

Title contenders Eric Reyell and Dale O’Neil get two chances tonight to gain ground on Mini Modified point leader Jayson Criss of Plattsburgh. Criss has built a 28-point lead over Reyell with three wins and 11 top-5 finishes. O’Neil, who recently won the 60-lap Mini Modified special event, is another five points back.

The final point race of the year, the Mike Watts Memorial event, including a 100-lap Modified contest, is slated for Sunday, September 1.

Airborne has announced plans for a Crash-a-Rama event Sunday, September 14, which includes a $5,000-to-win Enduro and a Demolition Derby. More information is posted on


Mooers Mafia wins NVL summer session

PLATTSBURGH — Mooers Mafia edged out regular season champs, Kenny Alterie Construction, 3-2, in the championship game of the 2013 Northern Volleyball League summer session. Cup of Joe won, 3-2, to claim 3rd place over I’d Hit That.

SARANAC — All Saranac Central School modified athletics will begin August 26. Please note the following times and locations:

O’Connor, Sweet take first in senior golf championships

PLATTSBURGH — The 16th-annual Senior Open Golf Championships were held at Bluff Point Golf Resort on August 22. Prior to the round, there was a ceremonial tee shot by Roger Browne in honor of his late father, Lloyd, a long-time area golfer who was well known in golf circles.

The two winners of 2014 memberships were Mike O’Connor for low gross and Chuck Sweet for low net.

There were six awards in each age group.

In the ages 55-59 bronze group, the low gross winner was T. Raville, followed by R. Browne and R. O’Loughlin. Low net winner was B. Dergham, followed by H. Smith and R. Benedict.

In the ages 60-64 white division, M. O’Connor was low gross, with R. Bigelow and M. Derrigo second and third. Low net honors went to L. Brown, followed by G. Terry and J. Birtz.

Low gross in the ages 65-69 gray division went to L. Jeffords, followed by C. Dandrow and D. Lamora. D. Durham won low net, with J. Abrams in second and A. Lamarche in third.

In the ages 70-74 silver division, F. Woodward was low gross, followed by G. Hackett and G. Frazier. C. Sweet took first place low net, with T. Loughan second and C. King in third.

In the ages 75-and-over platinum division, low gross was one by E. Vogel, with W. Marvin second and V. Lewis third. J. Strack won low net, followed by W. Miner and E. Trombley.

Closest to the pin winners were F. Woodward, D. Lamora, P. Devita and J. Niles. Skins were won by B. Dandrow, A. Rovers, T. Raville, G. Hackett and E. Vogel. The raffle for a set of golf clubs was won by R. Bigelow.
