Crab Island kayak trip and tour set for June 19

PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a free kayak trip and tour of Crab Island to all Town of Plattsburgh active adults and seniors.

The trip will be on Tuesday, June 19. Kayakers will leave the Cliff Haven Beach at 7:30 a.m. and paddle to Crab Island. The trip will include a short hike on the island with Roger Harwood. Kayakers will return by noon.

All participants must pre-register prior to the trip and can do so by stopping by the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department, at 151 Banker Road or online at For participants using our equipment, there will be a $10 non-refundable registration fee for the trip or $5 non-refundable registration fee for those participants over age 55. There is no fee for participants bringing their own equipment. Prior kayaking experience is necessary. Space is limited.

Piller has fastest time in bicycle time trials

POINT AU ROCHE — Jack Piller posted the fastest time at the weekly bicycle time trials with a 22:31 time, followed by Jay Ruff and Matthew Speirs.

The time trials are Wednesday nights at the Point au Roche firehouse on the Lakeshore Road. The event is open to all novice and experienced riders, road bikes or mountain bikes. Helmets are mandatory, and all riders must obey the rules of the road.Registration begins around at 5:30 p.m., with the first rider going out at 6 p.m. Riders interested in the 25-mile event should be prepared to start between 5:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club lists summer hours

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Rod & Gun Club’s indoor shooting range will continue to be open all summer. The range will be open Tuesdays at 6 p.m. for rifle, Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. for pistol and the first and third Saturdays of the month (June-August) from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Free equipment and instruction is available. The club grounds are always open to members for fishing and boating.
