Renegade 100 tops Airbornecard tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The Key RD Trailer Sales Renegades are in it for the long haul tonight as Airborne Speedway returns to action after last Saturday’s rainout.

Furniture World of VT, sponsor of the long-distance event, has offered a $500 bonus to the race leader at the mandatory pit stop on lap 50, if the driver opts to restart at the rear of the field and comes back to lead the final lap. If the offer goes unaccepted, the bonus money will be split between two top-10 finishers as determined by draw.

Josh Terry of Essex won last year’s Renegade 100 after halfway leader Kevin Boutin’s bid for the bonus money fell one spot short.

UniFirst and MoldRite are co-sponsors of tonight’s card which includes DIRTcar Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Limited Late Models and Mini Mods.

Defending Ernie’s Tools Modified champion Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT leads Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville 166-152 in the point standings with three events completed. Leon Gonyo of Chazy trails Mueller by eight points.

Plattsburgh’s Nick Heywood, who has finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in three starts, is the J&S Steel Sportsman Modified point leader.

Airborne Speedway is located on Broderick Rd just off Rte 22 one mile south of I-87 exit 36. Grandstands open at 4 p.m. Qualifying heats begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $12/adults, kids 12 and under admitted free.
