---- — Go Nuclear Late Models at Mohawk tonight

AKWESASNE — The Go Nuclear Late Models will have their first of three scheduled events at Mohawk International Raceway tonight. The popular Late Model Series always puts on fantastic racing, but this night will be special with the addition of World of Outlaw Late Model stars Chub Frank and Clint Smith in the field.

The 358 Modifieds will also be in action as point leader and defending champion Billy Dunn looks continue his winning streak. The Sportsman Division will also be on hand with Mike Arquiette enjoying his first victory of the season last week. The Bandit Division will round out the program. The Pro Stocks and Mod Lites will have the night off.

Pit gates and spectator area will open at 4 p.m. Heat race action will get underway at 7:30 p.m. Pit Admission is $30 with DIRTcar License and $35 without. Grandstand Admission is only $20 with children 12 and under admitted for just $5.

Lady Cougars hoops camp starts Monday

CHAMPLAIN — The Lady Cougar Basketball Camp will run from June 24 through June 28 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. The camp is open to all girls entering the third grade or older. The fee is $50 and covers the camp, a t-shirt and drinks.

Each day will feature individual instruction, speakers and team games. This is an ideal opportunity for players to further their team and individual skills. Contact Frank Dumas at 297-4860 or 565-6900. Anyone interested can register Monday morning and should arrive a little early.

Free kayak trip offered on July 11

PLATTSBURGH — The Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department will offer a free kayak trip and tour of Valcour Island to all Town of Plattsburgh active adults and seniors on Thursday, July 11. Kayakers will leave the Peru Boat Dock at 7:30 a.m and paddle to Valcour Island. The trip will include a short hike on the island with Roger Harwood. Kayakers will return by noon.

All participants must pre-register by stopping by the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department at 151 Banker Rd. or by calling 562-6860. Prior kayaking experience is necessary. Space is limited.

Cadieux receives Academic All-America honors

TOWSON, Md. — Mathieu Cadieux of the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men’s At-Large Team, which is selected annually by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cadieux was named to the Third Team, earning the first Academic All-America award of his career.

A goaltender from Oshawa, Ontario, Cadieux finished his junior year with a 15-7-1 record and became the ninth two-time AHCA All-American in program history. He ranked fifth in Division III with a 1.78 goals-against average and was tied for 12th in the nation with a .929 save percentage. In two seasons with the Cardinals, he has posted a 31-12-4 record with 1,097 saves.

Cadieux is a business major with a 3.75 grade-point average. He is the lone State SUNYAC representative on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Men’s At-Large Team and is one of six ice hockey players to be recognized.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings and be nominated by his/her sports information director. The At-Large Team consists of student-athletes from 12 men’s intercollegiate sports, which includes fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Curle, Ryan receive IIABO scholarships

PLATTSBURGH — The recipients of the 2013 International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) Scholarships for Section VII have been named. Marle Curle, a member of the class of 2013 at Plattsburgh High School, will attend Bowdoin College in Brunswick , Maine. Keegan Ryan, a member of the class of 2013 at Beekmantown Central, will attend St. John Fisher College in Pittsford. Both Curle and Ryan surpassed 1,000 career points during their senior seasons.

Ausable Valley Fun Run/Walk series starts July 8

CLINTONVILLE — There will be a free, six-night series of races for all ages and ability levels sponsored by the AuSable Forks and Keeseville Youth Commissions. All are welcome. Distances are one-quarter mile (suggested ages: 3 to 5), one-half mile (ages 6 to 8), 1 mile and 3.1 miles.

The series will be held Monday nights starting July 8 and ending Aug. 12 at AuSable Valley Middle School/High School, 1273 NYS Route 9N, Clintonville, NY 12924. Races start at 6 p.m., and registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Free t-shirts will be available for those who participate on four or more of the nights. The races will take place rain or shine.
