2013 Winterfest set for Feb. 1-3
PLATTSBURGH — The 2013 Winterfest at the West Plattsburgh American Legion will be held Feb. 1 to 3.
The curling event takes place all three days and is open to four-person teams with sign-ups ending by Jan. 29. Entry fee is $20 per team ($5 per person), which must accompany sign-up. Sign-up is on a first come, first serve basis. For more information, contact Jamie at 593-5661.

The softball in the snow tournament is set for Feb. 2 to 3. The final is scheduled to be played Sunday. Sign-ups available until Jan. 29 with an entry fee of $50 per team, which must accompany sign-up.

Flyers taking on Montreal Vipers Jan. 26
CHAZY — The Chazy Flyers Bantam Major (98) team will be hosting the Montreal Vipers AA team on Jan. 26 at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
The game will start at 4:15 pm. Chazy (28-8-2) is gearing up for a run at the New York State Tier 3 Championships at Amherst on March 7-10.
Fast Pitch League meeting Feb. 7
AUSABLE FORKS — AuSable Forks Fast Pitch League will be holding a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at Riverside Lanes.
All interested teams for the upcoming season are encouraged to attend.
Winter Adventure Races set for Feb. 2-23
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau and Town of Plattsburgh Recreation Department will host a series of Winter Adventure Races.
The races will take place Feb. 2 to 23 at the Champlain Valley Transportation Museum located on the U.S. Oval.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. and runs start at 2:15 p.m. Youth will be running, climbing and crawling through the snow.
All events are free and open to the youth of all ages; awards will be handed out during the final race.

Plattsburgh Little League registration this week
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Little League will hold 2013 player registrations on Jan. 24 and Jan. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crete Center lobby.
Players must be born between May 1, 2000 and April 30, 2006 to be eligible for the 2013 season. Be prepared to show a birth certificate.
Players must reside in the League boundaries (plattsburghll.webs.com/boundrymap.pdf). Be prepared to show three forms (driver’s license, utility bill, cable bill, vehicle registration, etc.) of residency verification dated between Feb. 1, 2012 and Feb. 1, 2013.
Rates are $45 per player. All checks to be made out to Plattsburgh Little League.
Lost Pond Hunting Club Rabbit Derby Jan. 26-27
SARANAC — The 4th Annual Lost Pond Hunting Club Rabbit Derby will be held at Saranac American Legion Jan. 26 and 27.
Entry fee is $12 and will include two spaghetti dinners. Prizes will be awarded based on entries. Tickets available at West Plattsburgh Legion, Saranac American Legion and C&S Bait & Tackle Plus.

Aveson receives ECAC West Goalie of the Week nod
CENTERVILLE, Mass. — Sydney Aveson of the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team was named Goalie of the Week by the ECAC West for the week ending Jan. 20.
Aveson improved to 13-0-1 with back-to-back wins against nationally-ranked No. 3 Elmira. The junior out of West Covina, Calif. allowed one goal on 23 shots in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Soaring Eagles. On Sunday, she recorded 18 saves as the Cardinals skated to a 5-4 victory to remain undefeated on the year.
Boise, Holmes win divisions at Rail Jam
WILMINGTON — Plattsburgh’s Joshua Boise (snowboarding) and Oliver Holmes (skiing) won their divisions during the USASA Rail Jam held Dec. 21 at Whiteface Mountain.
Holmes, 17, also had the best trick overall and earned a special invitation to compete in the Exhibition X-Games in Aspen, Colo. Jan. 26.
