E’town defeats Westport in Toilet Bowl

ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown captured the 2012 Toilet Bowl, 4-1, over Westport Monday.

Joe Cashin threw for three touchdowns and Jimmy Pierce rushed for one for Elizabethtown. Hunter Mowery, Jason Java and Evan Drew hauled in a touchdown pass each from Cashin.

The Elizabethtown defense was also strong with Cashin, Josh Mowery and Drew collecting interceptions. Slim Westcott forced a fumble.

Sean Davis scored the lone touchdown of the game for Westport.

The Elder Statesman Award this season goes to Slim Westcott of Elizabethtown and Ike Taylor of Westport.

ADK schedules events

PLATTSBURGH — The public is invited to join the Algonquin Chapter of the ADK for their Wednesday Walk About Town today. Lynn Valenti is the leader of the walk and everyone who wishes to participate should meet at 3 p.m. on the steps of City Hall.

Tonight, there is a Wednesday tour of the New Land Trust in Saranac led by Jim King. Meet at Building 236 at 10 p.m. Call 310-1164 for more information.

The public is invited Friday to hear DEC Backcountry Forest Ranger Jim Giglinto speak about ‘Backcountry Avalanche Awareness.’

Giglinto, a high peaks ranger, will discuss some factors influencing avalanches and their history in the Adirondack backcountry.

Giglionto’s program begins at 7 p.m. on the second floor auditorium of the Old Clinton County Courthouse.

A business meeting will follow at 8 p.m.

There is a ski or snowshoe outing, depending on snow depth, Saturday. Nancy Olsen will be leading the moderate climb. Bring lunch and a warm drink. Call 561-0189 by Thursday if interested.
