---- — NYSEF Open winners announced

LAKE PLACID — The 15th annual New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) Open Golf Tournament was held June 9 at the Lake Placid Club. More than 30 teams played in a traditional scramble format on the historic Mountain Course. Several NYSEF alumni, athletes, and supporters, including Tommy Biesemeyer and Andrew Weibrecht of the U.S. Ski Team, joined in the match in support of NYSEF.

The winning team took home the NYSEF Open Cup and drew first choice from the prize table.

Tupper Lake Tinman announceslocal results

TUPPER LAKE — There were 26 local finishers in this years Tupper Lake Tinman, which is a half ironman distance of 70.3 miles.

Erin Rasco from Cadyville was the second overall finisher for women and the top area finisher with a time of 4:59.

Oricchio chosen to All-Academic Team

TROY — Brianne Oricchio, who attended Seton Catholic, was chosen as a Section II All-Academic Team member in lacrosse at Emma Willard School.

Last year, Oricchio was awarded the Most Improved Player award and her team was runner up in the lacrosse state tournament.

In addition, Oricchio was a three-sport participant, also playing soccer and indoor track.

Lake Placidholding overnight soccer camps

LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid Soccer Centre celebrates its 37th summer of overnight youth soccer camps at St. Lawrence University.

Girls and boys, ages 5-18, attend soccer skills development sessions as both overnight guest campers or commuting day students. Campers come from over 10 countries and 25 US States and Canadian provinces to learn from an International Soccer Staff or professional, college, club, and high school coaches.

One additional local day camp July 8-12 at the Lake Placid Elementary School is directed by Stuart Hemsley, who first worked for Lake Placid Soccer Centre in 1985. Stuart led the Lake Placid High School boys varsity team to a first ever Section VII last season.

2013 summer overnight camp sessions run July 14-20 and July 21-27, at St. Lawrence University and July 8-12 at Lake Placid Elementary School.

Cardinal Classic Golf Tournament set for Aug. 7

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State basketball program with host the 26th Annual Cardinal Classic Golf Tournament, sponsored by Chartwells and PrimeLink, on Aug. 7. The tournament will take place at The Barracks Golf Course with an 11 a.m. shotgun start.

Following an afternoon on the golf course, participants will enjoy an awards ceremony, cocktail hour and a dinner featuring a la carte dining stations in the Boathouse at the Valcour Conference Center.

A variety of packages are available for individuals and businesses interested in attending the annual event. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Plattsburgh State basketball program, while proceeds from the raffle conducted at the event will benefit March of Dimes.

Freaky Friday, Saturday Night Ice Shows begin July 5

LAKE PLACID — The 2013 summer skating series opens this weekend, July 5 and 6, with Friday’s Freaky Friday and the Saturday Night Ice Show at the Olympic Center. Friday’s Freaky Friday event begins at 4:30 p.m., while Saturday night’s show is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the center’s 1932 Rink Jack Shea Arena.

American figure skater Agnes Zawadzki opens this season’s Saturday Night Ice Shows. Zawadzki is a two-time U.S. national championship bronze medalist (2012 and 2013) and a two-time junior Worlds medalist (20101 and 2011). The Niles, Ill. resident also skated to the 2010 U.S. junior national championship crown.

Joining Zawadzki will be skaters participating in the 81st annual summer skating program. The skaters will perform their individual and group numbers during this entertaining event. Admission to the show is $10 for adults, $8 for juniors and seniors. Children six and under may enter for free.

The ever-popular Freaky Friday show will also feature skaters from the summer skating program, who create their own unique routines for this event. The skaters abandon their regular routines in favor of creativity, humor and amusement. The routines are judged on entertainment value. Admission is free.
