Mazdzer sets

personal-best finish at World Cup event

OBERHOF, Germany — Saranac Lake’s Chris Mazdzer set a personal-best finish of 12th at the Oberhof World Cup events held Sunday.

Mazdzer beat his previous best finish of 13th, which he set at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.

“The runs themselves were not too much different,” Mazdzer said in a USA Luge press release. “My second start was faster. In the first run, I hit (a wall) at the bottom before Kriesel (360 degree turn). That cost me one or two tenths of a second. That was a big mistake and left a lot of room for improvement. Otherwise I could’ve been a few spots higher.”

Mazdzer finished in 1 minute, 28.195 seconds, just 0.4 seconds from a podium spot.

Mazdzer is 17th in the World Cup standings with 150 points. He did not earn any points Sunday because the U.S. team was entered unofficially because the event was a European Championship-only event.
