---- — Earle named women’s basketball coach at Clinton

PLATTSBURGH — Ryan Earle has been appointed the new women’s basketball coach for the Clinton Community College Cougars for the 2013-14 season.

Earle is a native of the area, graduating from Peru Central High School, where he was a member of the 2002 boys’ sectional champion team as a player. Following high school, Ryan attended Clinton Community College where he continued his playing career. Ryan was the point guard for the men’s program which, in 2007, made it to the Regional Final Four, led by current men’s basketball coach, Kevin Daugherty.

Ryan has since held various positions at Plattsburgh High School, spending three seasons as the boys’ Modified A coach and, most recently, the boys’ junior varsity coach for the past two years.

Lake Placid hosting Four Nations Cup

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Hockey announced Friday, Sept. 27, that tickets for the Four Nations Cup, set for Nov. 5-9 in Lake Placid at the Olympic Center, will go on sale Monday, Sept. 30, at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Olympic Center Box Office, charge by phone at 523-3330.

The Four Nations Cup, which is part of the Bring on the World Tour for the U.S. women’s national team, is an annual tournament that has been held in varying forms since 1996. Canada, Sweden and Finland will join the U.S. in this year’s event.

The United States will open the tournament against Sweden, Nov. 5, before competing against Canada, Nov. 6, and Finland, Nov. 8. The championship and third place games will be held, Nov. 9.

As part of the Bring on the World Tour, the U.S. women’s national team will also play Canada three other times in the U.S. in preparation for Sochi, including Oct. 12 at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vt., Dec. 20, at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D., and Dec. 28 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.

Waldron aces hole

BRUSHTON — Bob Waldron collected a hole-in-one on the first hole at Highland Greens Golf Course Sept. 29.

He used a 6 iron on the 165-yard hole. It was witnessed by Larry Waldron and John Lamica.

PYH meets tonight

PLATTSBURGH — The next Plattsburgh Youth Hockey (PYH) board meeting will be held tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Primelink.

The meeting is open to the public.

Halloween Golf Tournament set for Oct. 13

PLATTSBURGH — The 22nd Annual Mike Dodds’ Halloween Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 13 at Barracks Golf Course.

There will be $1,000 in cash and prizes. The tournament is a 4-person scramble with a team handicap divided by eight. There will be a shotgun start at 11 a.m.

Cost is $55 for nonmembers, which includes green fees, cart, beverages, pizza and prizes, and $40 for members.

Prizes for best team costume and individual costume will be awarded. This year’s tournament will once again benefit the Christmas Bureau and Toys for Tots. All participants are asked to bring a toy.

To enter, pick up applications at Barracks Golf Club or contact Mike Dodds at 593-2792 or golf0069@aol.com. Applications will not be accepted unless accompanied with payment. Entries close Oct. 9.

Lamare, Pepper capture Underwood/Hammey Open

PLATTSBURGH — The Underwood/Hammey Open was recently held at Barracks Golf Course.

Four-time champion Todd Lamare teamed with Ed Pepper to take first place in a playoff over Team O’Meara. Two skins were won by O’Meara and Jim Barr. Andy Burgess won the fewest pars award with one. Senior player Bob Zuckerman had the most individual points with 13 in the stapleford event.

Saranac Booster club to meet Oct. 7

SARANAC — The Saranac Booster club will meet Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the high school.

New members are welcome to attend.

‘Meet the Cardinals’ event Oct. 9

PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Centre Mall is hosting ‘Meet the Cardinals’ Oct. 9 from 6:15-7:15 p.m. in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods. Fall athletes from the men’s and women’s soccer teams, the men’s and women’s cross country teams, the volleyball team and the tennis team will be present.

Each team will be handing out game schedules and team photos. Shake their hands, get their autographs, and get your picture taken with the athletes that represent Plattsburgh State. The fall Cardinal athletes will also be raffling off team merchandise to raise money for breast cancer awareness. All proceeds will be donated to the Treasure Chests Breast Cancer Support Group of CVPH.

The event is open to the community, youth teams, athletes, and all fans of Plattsburgh State Athletics. Champlain Centre expects to host this exciting event for the fall, winter, and spring seasons.

Gosselin places 26th

CANTON — Northeastern Clinton graduate and current freshman at SUNY Canton, Devin Gosselin, participated in her first women’s cross country invitational at Johnson State College in Vt.

She placed 26th in the race to help Canton take home the victory.
