Shamrocks capture regional title
North Conway, N.H. — The Vermont Shamrocks U-16 girls’ hockey team, featuring a local player, won the USA Hockey Tier II New England Regionals this past weekend to earn a return trip to the national championships.
The Shamrocks defeated Rhode Island, 6-0, and tied Maine, 0-0, and the Connecticut Polar Bears, 2-2, in round-robin play to earn the No. 2 seed.
In the semifinal, the Shamrocks beat the Polar Bears, 1-0. In the final, Vermont topped the Connecticut Mid-Fairfield Stars, 4-0. Amy LoTemplio of Morrisonville had a strong tournament on defense for the Shamrocks, registering two assists. The Shamrocks yielded only two goals in the tournament.
LoTemplio played on the Shamrock U-16 team that won the national championship last year in San Jose, Calif.
The U-19 Shamrocks, featuring Cailee LaPorte of Chazy, lost in the New England Regional finals, 1-0, to Maine, ending their season.
The USA Hockey Girls Tier II Championships will be held in Amherst April 2 to 6. Joining the Shamrocks as defending champions in the tournament will be the Chazy Flyers U-19 team.
CCYB hosts Fun Run Series
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Youth Bureau will host a Spring Fun Run Series.
Races will begin behind the City of Plattsburgh Gym Complex at 52 US Oval, on the Terry Gordon Memorial Bike Path. The runs will take place April 7, 14, 21, 28 and May 5. Registration begins at 5 p.m. and runs start at 5:15 p.m.
The runs are for youth ages 2 to 14 years old. Six and under will be running a quarter-mile distance. Ages 7 to 10 will be running a half-mile distance. Ages 11 to 14 will be running a mile distance and parents are also invited to run the mile.
All events are free and there will be warmup stretching and running tips for the participants. Awards will be handed out during the final run.
