Plattsburgh State women to host Williams College
PLATTSBURGH – The eight-team field for the NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament has been announced with the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team hosting Williams College in the NCAA Quarterfinals Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
The complete bracket for the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Tournament was released Monday morning and features three additional quarterfinal matchups – St. Thomas (Minn.) at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Elmira at Norwich and Lake Forest at Wisconsin-River Falls. All four quarterfinal games will take place this weekend with the winners advancing to the NCAA Semifinals set for Friday, March 21.
Tickets for the NCAA Quarterfinal contest will go on sale Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Field House Box Office. Tickets will be $6 for general admission and $4 for college students with a valid ID.
The Cardinals enter the tournament with a 25-1-1 record after winning their second-straight Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s West title. Plattsburgh State will be making its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance and 10th overall.
Williams received an automatic berth into the tournament after defeating Bowdoin, 4-1, to claim the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) crown. Saturday’s game will mark the Ephs’ second trip to the NCAA Tournament, with their first appearance coming in 2003.
Plattsburgh Roller Derby to hold Bout of Gold
PLATTSBURGH — Come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Plattsburgh Roller Derby. The North Country Lumber Jills face the Calamity Janes from Maine in their second bout of the season.
The Lumber Jills won their first bout against the Black Ice Brawlers of the Green Mountain Derby Dames from Burlington, Vt. in a close and exciting match. In the upcoming bout, the Lumber Jills face another challenging team.
Put on your green attire and come to the Plattsburgh City Recreation Department on the U.S. Oval on March 22 to experience what roller derby is all about. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the bout starts at 6 p.m..
