Lake Placid awarded 2016, 2018 hockey finals
PLATTSBURGH — The NCAA has awarded the Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championships to the city of Lake Placid in 2016 and 2018. Lake Placid, Plattsburgh State and the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) will all host the championships March 25 and 26, 2016 and March 23 and 24, 2018.
Bidding for 82-of-89 NCAA championships began in July, and 1,984 bid applications were ultimately submitted. Each sport committee, per division, selected the host sites it believed would provide the ultimate experience for the respective student-athletes, resulting in 523 total championship event sites awarded. The seven championships not included in the process due to preexisting site arrangements are: Division I baseball, Division I men’s basketball, Division I football, Division I men’s and women’s golf, Division I softball and Division III women’s ice hockey.
Plattsburgh FC holding tryouts Dec. 15
PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh FC Soccer Club will be holding its annual tryouts Dec. 15 for their upcoming spring travel season. These tryouts are for boys and girls ages 14 (turning 15 before Aug. 1) through 18.

Titus Mountain opens for the season
Malone — Titus Mountain Family Ski Center will be officially open for the season at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with night skiing available until 10 p.m. Following Saturday, Titus will operate on its regular hours seven days a week for the balance of the season, weather permitting.
There have been a number of improvements at Titus. Enhanced snowmaking capability along with new snow guns gives Titus the ability to make more snow faster and on all three mountains simultaneously.
The upper mountain lodge has seen the addition of new wall-to-wall carpeting, upgraded restroom facilities and a new roof. The lower mountain lodge has been enhanced to include an outdoor stone patio area that includes a band stand, two new fireplaces and a wood-fired pizza oven. And more parking has been added at the lower mountain and the number of reserved parking spaces has increased.
On the mountain, two new trails have been added, along with numerous improvements to the many lift stations and other outlying buildings.
A new wireless network has been installed that will offer improved internet connectivity for visitor convenience. An expanded E-Store on titusmountain.com allows customers to purchase lift tickets and rentals online prior to arrival, getting them onto the mountain faster. Titus has also upgraded its on-mountain point-of-sale system to process transactions more quickly and added new rental equipment, including hi-performance ski packages.

Wood wins division at table tennis tourney
RUTLAND, Vt. — Tom Wood of Plattsburgh won the first-place trophy in the singles division for players rated under 800 at the Green Mountain Open Table Tennis Tournament at Rutland, Vt. on Dec. 7.
Hank Puding of Redford also entered the tournament and played in the doubles division with Wood.
