Lions Club, Cardinals join Fight to Save Sight
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Lions Club and Plattsburgh State Athletics have teamed up for the second straight year to Join the Fight to Save Sight. The Lions Club will collect used eyeglasses at all three Plattsburgh home contests today. Collections will begin in the Memorial Hall lobby during the Plattsburgh State men’s and women’s basketball games against Fredonia. Members of the Lions Club will also be on hand to collect used glasses in the lobby of Stafford Ice Arena as the men’s hockey team hosts Cortland.
Used eyeglasses are delivered to eyeglass recycling centers, where they are cleaned, sorted and packaged before being distributed to people in need in developing countries.
Ryan Rookie of the Week for 5th time
ROCHESTER — Former Beekmantown basketball player Keegan Ryan has been named the Empire Eight athletic conference’s Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season. Ryan had two excellent outings for Saint John Fishers (16-9, 9-5 Empire 8), averaging 9.5 points per game seven rebounds, and two blocks.
Ryan helped lead the Cardinals to two conference wins over Nazareth College and Alfred University.
Rouses Point 5K Frostbite Run results
ROUSES POINT — Brian Wilson was the first-place finisher with a time of 17 minutes and 48 seconds, while Sara Dunham was second overall and the first female with a time of 18:24 in the Rouses Point 5K Frostbite Run Feb. 16.
Eighty-four runners, ranging from 7 to 75 years old, completed at the event, which was hosted by the Rouses Point Fire Department and Northern Lights Track Club.
A portion of the proceeds were given to the Rouses Point Fire Department and the Jonathan Evans Memorial Fund.
