Cardinals take part in Jump Rope for Health

PLATTSBURGH — Members of the Plattsburgh State men’s basketball team joined scores of youngsters from Oak Street Elementary School on Thursday to take part in an hour-long jump rope contest to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Anthony Baker, Edward Correa, Mike Mitchell, Owen Mitchell, Alan Siergiej and head coach Tom Curle led 14 teams of kids who were present to spend a portion of their time after school jumping rope and hula hooping.

Spearheaded by Oak Street Elementary School physical education instructor Annmarie Curle, the event has been held near or on Valentine’s Day and encourages kids to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day in order to achieve a healthy body and mind.

Rough Riders place second in division

Plattsburgh — The Rough Riders Rifle Team came in fourth place overall, and second in the eastern division, in Week 3 of the VT Winter Postal League. Peter Visconti fired a 395 and currently has the second-highest average out of 115 league shooters. Andrew Visconti was the top junior shooter on the team with a 383. Striders have strong Snowshoe showing

GRANBY, Quebec — Thirteen members of the Paul Smith’s College Striders defended their International Snowshoe Championship title last Saturday in Granby, Quebec with team dominance in the distance events and by winning two of the three relays.

Matt Williams and Ashley Evans were both recognized as Junior A (age 15 to 19) Athletes of the Day. Williams’ three gold medals included wins in the 400 and 800 meters and as a member of the men’s 4 x 100 relay.
