---- — Rouses Point Civic Center to offer public skating

ROUSES POINT — Public skating, with the cost being $2, will be held at the Rouses Point Civic Center on: weekdays, Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Oct. 15 to 19, 22 to 26 and 29 from 4 to 5:20 p.m.; Saturday, October 13, 20 and 27 from 5 to 6:50 p.m.; and Sunday, October 14, 21 and 28 from noon to 2 p.m.

Open hockey, with the cost being $5, is offered on: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9:30 p.m. to 11:20 p.m.


Skating club of the Adirondacks’ lessons under way

PLATTSBURGH — The Skating Club of the Adirondacks’ fall ice skating lessons are underway. New member of all ages are welcome to sign up for lessons at a discounted rate for the remainder of October.

Basic Skills lessons are taught Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. For more information, e-mail to request a brochure.


Ameri-Can North planning men’s hockey league

PLATTSBURGH — The Ameri-Can North Sports Center will be hosting a pre-season meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 to discuss the winter sessions of its Men’s Hockey League. Anyone interested, including team captains and interested individuals looking to be put on a team, are asked to attend.

PYH registration set for Oct. 15

PLATTSBURGH — PYH will be hosting a registration night on Monday, Oct. 15 in the Plattsburgh State Field House lobby from 5 to 7 p.m. To register with PYH you must register your child for the 2012-2013 season at Remember to print the registration verification barcode and bring it with you. Next visit to print and fill out the PYH registration form. Bring the barcode and PYH registration form when you come on Oct. 15.


Local roller derby team to end season with event

PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Lumber Jills roller derby team will end their 2012 bouting season on Saturday, Oct. 27 against Watertown’s Black River Rollers. The bout will take place at the Plattsburgh City Recreation Center on the U.S. Oval. Doors open to the public at 5 p.m., with the first whistle at 6 p.m.

Stop by at Body Art Tattoo, North Country Food Co-Op or Conroy’s Organics, or go to, to buy your tickets in advance, which are $10 for adults and $5 for children ages five to 12. Children under five are admitted free. General admission tickets are $12 at the door on the day of the event.

Greene named SUNYAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

CORTLAND — Tome Greene of the Plattsburgh State men’s soccer team was named SUNY Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct.7.

Green had the first goal, and game winner in Plattsburgh States double overtime win over Oneonta State on Saturday.

The Cardinals, who are 13-1-0 overall and 4-1 in SUNYAC play, continue conference play this weekend in their final road trip of the regular season. They will take on Fredonia today at 4 p.m. and finish the weekend at Buffalo State for a 1 p.m. matchup Saturday.
