Ruiz Shoots and Scores Weekly Honor
PLATTSBURGH — Sophomore guard Chris Ruiz of the Plattsburgh State men's basketball team was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 1.

Ruiz and the Cardinals suffered a tough 59-58 loss to Clarkson University last Tuesday, but Ruiz still managed to lead the day with 25 points.

He shot 76.9% from the field, pulled down four rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded one block during the contest for the Cardinals. Ruiz also went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Plattsburgh currently stands at 2-2 on the year and opens up SUNYAC play on Friday at home against Brockport at 8 p.m.

Adirondack Pride sets Christmas party
SARANAC LAKE — The Adirondack Pride Team will sponsor a Christmas party for Adirondack Stride for Pride Sports team members and their families, past and present and future. The Team invites all children, young adults, families or volunteers interested in becoming involved in its organization.

The party will be Sunday, Dec. 7, from 3-5 p.m., at the Mount Pisgah Lodge in Saranac Lake. Some of the activities will include making Christmas crafts, cookie decorating, and of course, a visit with Santa. Pizza and snacks will be served.

The purpose of Adirondack Pride, a not-for-profit organization, is to provide individuals of all abilities opportunities to build confidence, foster independence and promote health and wellness by participating in sports, outdoor recreation, social and leisure activities.

ADK pot-luck dinner slated for Friday
MORRISONVILLE — The public is invited to join the Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) for an evening of fun, food, fellowship, and shared adventures at its Annual Pot Luck Dinner, Dec. 5.

The dinner, which begins at 5:30 p,m., will be held at the Conservation Building on the Clinton County Fairgrounds. Bring a dish to share (hors d'oeuvres, salad, main dish, or dessert), and your own place setting and cup. Coffee and hot water will be provided.

Beartown directors to meet Dec. 3
BEEKMANTOWN — The Beartown Ski Area Board of Directors will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the ski lodge. All board members are encouraged to attend.

AuSable football ceremony Thursday
CLINTONVILLE — The AuSable Valley football program will have its awards ceremony Thursday, at 6 p.m., in the Middle High School cafeteria. Modified, junior varsity and varsity players, their families, and community members are welcome to attend.

Soccer write-ups due Friday
PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls' soccer all-star write-ups and pictures for MVP and all-stars are due to the Press-Republican by Dec. 5.

Mountain & Valley Athletic Conference boys' and girls' all-star lists, write-ups and pictures are due by Dec. 5 as well.

Poker Run, Walk slated for Saturday
PLATTSBURGH — The Third-Annual Poker Run and Walk to benefit the Christmas Bureau will be held Saturday, beginning and ending at Geoffrey's Pub in Plattsburgh. Registration will begin at 11:15 a.m. with the event to start at noon.

The first 50 registrants will receive an event t-shirt. The suggested donation is $20.

It is not a timed event and all runners and walkers are welcome. Along the 5-kilometer route, participants will be issued five playing cards. The person with the best poker hand at the completion will win the pot. Any ties will share the pot.

Willsboro K of C hoop shoot Dec. 13
WILLSBORO — The annual Willsboro-Essex Council 7461 Knights of Columbus free-throw contest will be held Saturday, Dec. 13, at 9 a.m. in the Willsboro Central School gymnasium.

Boys and girls ages 10-14 are invited to participate with the date for age determination, Jan. 1, 2009.

Entry forms are available from Willsboro physical education teachers and Jim Spring, at 963-4373.

Ti Elks hoop shoot set for Saturday
TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Elks Lodge 1494 will hold its annual hoop shoot on Saturday at the Ticonderoga Middle School. Registration will be from 10-11 a.m. with the contest beginning at 11 a.m.

Boys and girls ages 8-13 as of April 1, 2009, are eligible. Participants must bring proof of age. It is open to St. Mary's students as well as students from Ticonderoga, Putnam, Crown Point, Moriah and Schroon Lake elementary and middle school.

Dart Tournament set for Saturday
PLATTSBURGH — The Budweiser Winter Dart Tournament will be held on Saturday at the 8 Ball Billiards Cafe, 7202 Route 9 in Plattsburgh. It will be draw-your-partner format and doors open at noon for sign-up and the tournament will begin at 1 p.m.

One hundred dollars and free food will be donated by 8 Ball Billiards Cafe. There will be $2.00 specials on Budweiser and Bud Light Beer. Trophies and cash will be awarded to the top three teams. For more information call Jay at 324-7665.
