Airborne DIRTcar Northeast Track of Year
Verona — Airborne Speedway received the inaugural VP Racing Fuels "Track of the Year" Award during the 34th-Annual DIRTcar Northeast Night of Champions Awards Banquet held Nov. 14 at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino Events Center in Verona.
VP Racing Fuels Eastern Regional Manager Jim Kelly made the presentation to Airborne promoter Mike Perrotte.
"It is an honor to receive the first-ever VP Racing Fuels Track of the Year Award," Perrotte said. "We're very proud of what we've been able to accomplish. It's gratifying to be acknowledged this way by the racing community."
VP Racing Fuels is the official racing fuel of DIRTcar Racing and the Super DIRTcar Series.
DIRTcar Northeast sanctioned 26 tracks divided into regions for the Big-Block Modified, 358-Modified and Sportsman classes in 2009. Regional Racing Series point funds rewarded the leading drivers in each class with total payouts totaling $39,425 for all nine open-wheel divisions.
Airborne Speedway will host a Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modified event Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
Broomfield gets hole-in-one
PLATTSBURGH — Bob Broomfield used a 3 iron to ace the 165-yard, 12th hole at The Barracks Golf Course last week. It was Broomfield's second career hole-in-one and only the second time in five years that a golfer has accomplished the feat on the 12th hole.
Taddo Meeks and Pilot Caninas witnessed the gem.
Little League board elections cancelled
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Little League Board of Directors annual elections to take place on Sunday, at the Alpert Barn off Flynn Ave. have been cancelled. A new date will be announced in sports shorts.
ESG snowshoe qualifying dates set
LAKE PLACID — The 2010 Empire State Winter Games will held Feb. 19-21 in Lake Placid. Individuals interested in qualifying for the snowshoe sprints must complete at least two qualifying races. Sprint races are at distances of 100, 200, 400 and 1,500 meters. You may qualify in the 100, 200 and 400 and/or the 1,500.
All area sprint qualifiers are free and open to all New York State residents 12 years and over. Qualifiers will be held Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Jan. 2 and Jan. 9 at Laphams Mills Recreation Park in Peru, starting at 11 a.m. The top 20 qualifying times in each age group/gender category for the sprints/ 1,500 will be invited to compete in the ESG Winter Games in Lake Placid.
Additionally, there is a 5-kilometer snowshoe race. All who complete one 5K qualifier will be eligible to compete in the ESG Games. The 5K snowshoe qualifiers will be held Dec. 27 and Jan. 16 at Cadyville Recreation Park, 114 Goddeau Road, at 11 a.m. A $2 fee will cover refreshments after the race.
A listing of qualified athletes will be posted after Feb. 7 on the ESG Web site. However, new this year, in order to compete, qualified individuals will have to register on line and pay a registration fee in addition to the annual ESSRA membership fee.

Turkey Trot slated for Thanksgiving Day
PERU — The 32nd-Annual John P. Adams Memorial Turkey Trot, hosted by the Peru Lions Club, will be held Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Peru Intermediate School cafeteria, next tot he Route 22B playground. The one-mile fun run/walk will start at 9 a.m. and the 5- and 10-kilometer races, shortly after.
Entry fee is $15 forthe 5 and 10K races and $5 for the mile fun run/walk. Trophies are awarded to the male and female winners of the 5 and 10K events and ribbons presented to the top three finishers in each age group. Runners' towels will be given to all participants in the 5 and 10K races. All participants will be entered in the drawings for turkeys and other prizes.

VanValkenbergs shine in Wiffleball
PLATTSBURGH — James VanValkenberg captured Player of the Week honors in the City of Plattsburgh Wiffleball League after powering Trim's Boys to a 13-12 victory over the Kevin Leavine Team. VanValkenberg had six hits with a home run while Keith VanValkenberg chipped in with four hits and a homer.
Tracy Rotz and Ian Passino belted round-trippers for Leavine's. Passino had four hits.
Josh Depo rapped out three hits with a homer as The Prowlers defeated Leavine's 12-7.
Subject to Blackout posted two victories, beating Bobby's Lounge 5-2 and holding Lashway's Meat Market hitless in a 5-0 win. Donny Coolidge homered in both games for Subject to Blackout while Jordan Maille had two hits against Bobby's. Jim Manchester slugged a homer with two hits for Bobby's.
Lashway's managed only three walks in its loss.
Hoop officials plan clinics for Moriah, Ti
PORT HENRY — The Champlain Valley Basketball Officials will hold a floor clinic/mechanics session at Moriah Central School on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. It will cover both boys' and girls' mechanics.
Monday's meeting originally scheduled for Schroon Lake Central School has been changed to the Ticonderoga Armory at 123 Champlain Ave in Ticonderoga. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. This meeting will be a floor clinic covering both boys' and girl's mechanics.
The annual IAABO Exam will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, at Schroon Lake Central School, beginning at 6 p.m.
Schofield had 266 yards
KINGSTON — Moriah's Ron Schofield rushed for 266 yards on 38 carries in the NYSPHSAA semifinal football game against Eldred Friday, not 295 as originally reported.
