King to speak at ADK meeting PLATTSBURGH — The public is invited to join the Algonquin Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) for its Friday, Nov. 6 program and meeting.
Jim King, a veteran 46er and the Algonquin Chapter's Outings Chair, will speak on preparing for winter fun whether it be hiking, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, or snowmobiling. The program begins at 7 p.m. followed by a business meeting.
Both the program and the meeting, which take place in the second-floor auditorium of the Old Clinton County Courthouse on the corner of Margaret and Court Streets, are free and open to the public. Please note that the program, which begins at 7 p.m., will precede the meeting.
Cardinal squirts win 2 PLATTSBURGH — The Jr. Cardinal squirts remained unbeaten with victories over Clifon Park A and Saratoga A on Saturday.
In the first game, Clifton Park played well, but Josh McCauley scored on a pass from Christian Thomas and then Thomas put in the eventual game-winner in the third period with an assist from Gavin Giroux for a 2-1 win.
In the second game, Saratoga was unable to keep up with the JR Cardinal speed. Kurtis Olsen recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead the way to an 8-1 victory. Chase Bedore and Josh McCauley each added two goals. Christian Thomas had a goal and three assists as he continues to control the puck.
Paul Fine-Lease added a goal and "Stone" Cole Harvey continued his strong play in net.
Southern hoop officials needed TICONDEROGA — The Champlain Valley Basketball Officials Association will hold a meeting and clinic on Monday at Ticonderoga Central School, beginning at 6 p.m.
There will be an administrative meeting held in the school cafeteria followed by a floor mechanics clinic in the high school gymnasium.
The association is in need of new officials for both boys and girls basketball this season. Anyone interested in officiating should attend this meeting.

Airborne banquet set for Nov. 6 SOUTH PLATTSBURGH — Airborne Speedway will honor its 2009 champions in five divisions and present various awards Friday, Nov. 6 at the Rainbow Wedding and Banquet Hall in Altona.
Among the honorees will be Ernie's Tools Modified champion Martin Roy of Napierville, QUE., J&S Steel Sportsman champion Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh, Versatile Trailer Sales Renegade titleholder Lonnie Rivers of Cadyville and four-cylinder champions Bill Thwaits/NAPA Mini-Modifieds and Jayson Blondo/Monster Energy Bombers.
Individual achievement awards as determined by ballot will be announced and the top 15 competitors in each division will be presented trophies.
Banquet tickets ($30) are available to anyone interested in attending, but must be purchased by Sunday, Nov. 1 by calling the Speedway office, at 561-3208 or 569-2239.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and awards and dancing to follow.
Hoop officials to meet tonight PLATTSBURGH — IAABO Board 43 Boys and Northern Adirondack Girls Officials will meet Nov. 1 at the following times in the Plattsburgh High School cafeteria — girls, 5 p.m.; boys, 5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in officiating high-school basketball games is encouraged to attend.
Current officials are reminded late dues and fines are to be paid, rulebooks and refresher tests will be distributed.
All the following meetings will be at Plattsburgh High School and at 6 p.m.
Nov. 2, 4 — girls' preseason rules.
Nov. 8 — mandatory girls rules
Nov. 9 — mandatory girls rules and the girls written test at 6:30.
Nov. 12, 17, 19 — boys' preseason rules.
Nov. 22 — mandatory boys rules
Nov. 30 — mandatory boys rules and the boys' written test at 6:30.
Additional dates will be Dec. 6, Jan. 4 and Feb. 22.

Soccer changes noted PLATTSBURGH — The Section VII Class B boys' soccer match between Saranac and Peru will be played at 2 p.m. Monday in Peru. The start time has been moved up because of the end of daylight savings time this weekend.
Also, the Class B girls' soccer match between Saranac and AuSable Valley will get under way at 5:30 p.m. Monday on the turf field in Clintonville.
Massena golfers 6th in tourney PINEHURST, N.C. — The Massena Country Club finished sixth out of 41 teams in the McGladrey Team Championship held recently at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, N.C. Massena CC, represented by PGA Professional Tom Siddon, and amateurs Tim Peets, Craig Siddon, and Benton Sullivan, recorded scores of 128-130-124—382 while competing on Pinehurst No 2, No 4, and No. 8.
Whispering Pines Golf Course out the Southern California PGA Section went on to win the tournament. Massena CC has competed in all three McGladrey Team Championship after finishing as the low qualifier in the Northeastern New York Section PGA. In the last two years, Massena finished third and second.
As part of the third annual McGladrey Team Championship, RSM McGladrey, one of the nation's leading tax, accounting and business consulting firms, presented a check for $175,725 to Special Olympics to benefit the organization's golf program.
Coed football tourney slated PLATTSBURGH — Coed flag football teams are needed for the First-Annual Plattsburgh Turkey Bowl to be held Nov. 22-26 at Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Park. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the local food shelf.
Games will be eight players a side with two women on the field at all times. The first eight teams to register at a cost of $150 will be accepted with teams guaranteed a minimum of three games.
Area sponsors are also needed and fans will be urged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the food shelf.

Paul Smith's runners No. 1 PAUL SMITHS — The Paul Smith's College men's and women's cross-country teams remain No. 1 in the NAIA's Sunrise Conference, a position they have held for most of the season.
Jessie Gardner, a senior from Hudson, is the top-ranked runner in the conference. She has finished in the top three in the Sunrise Conference Championships during her first three years, and is looking to vie for the top spot at the conclusion of the season. She set a personal-record for 5 kilometers in the CCOC Meet at Hobart with a time of 20:12.
Jessica Champagne, freshman from Sheldon, Vt., earned Sunrise Conference Runner of the Week honors for Women's Cross Country this week. She began the season as the fifth runner for the Paul Smith's College Bobcats, but has steadily improved through the season.
Last week, Champagne improved her 5K time under difficult conditions (steady downpour) at Saratoga State Park, to finish the 3.1-mile race in 23:20.
Ski, Snowboard fair Nov. 14 CHAMPLAIN — The North Country Youth Ski & Snowboard Club will hold a equipment swap as part of its Ski Fair Saturday, Nov. 14, at Northeastern Clinton Central School. The hours will be 1-3:30 p.m. and equipment can be dropped off from noon to 1 p.m. Admission is free.
Warren Miller films will be shown and passes, helmets, backpacks, Burton Snowboards will be exhibited. Tuning and waxing services will be available.
Burton will offer a chance to win a Jeremy Jones ICS Board with Custom EST Bindings, retail price $750. You can purchase raffle tickets in advance, or the day of the fair. You don't need to be present to win.
