Tolosky leads Hornets past Red Storm in OT, into 'B' title game

“I actually felt pretty comfortable in there,” Maknani said. “After giving up the goal, all our guys told me to keep my head up and that they would pick me up.”

Ryan Waterbury and Alex Price netted goals the Eagles beat the Cougars. The loss ends Northeastern Clinton’s season and a repeat chance of another sectional title.

While both teams were slow to start the game, Austin Tetreault threatened early for the Cougars with a strike that was turned away by Beekmantown’s keeper Matt LaClair. Northeastern Clinton’s Mason Letourneau had a shot sail over the crossbar one minute later. Then, with LaClair out of position, Ryan Parent’s scoring chance sailed over the net.

“I thought we really outplayed them in the first half,” Northeastern Clinton coach Dale Hawksby said. “If we convert on those early opportunities, it’s a different match.”

Waterbury broke the scoreless tie less than three minutes into the second half when his slow left-side strike trickled into the net after Northeastern Clinton keeper Brady Vassar couldn’t snag the loose ball.

Price added an insurance marker late in the half for Beekmantown.

LaClair collected three saves for the shutout while Vassar stopped five shots.

“We’re building momentum at the right time,” Beekmantown coach Ryan Loucy said. “NCCS took it to us in the first half, but we came out and caught them with an early goal in the second half. Emotionally, that really got us going and carried us through the rest of the game.”
