PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College men’s soccer team couldn’t carry its solid play the entire way Thursday night.
Adirondack Community College scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game and pulled away from the Cougars 4-1.
Leo Cunningham and Samuel Naiwo tallied two goals each for the visitors, with Naiwo also getting two assists.
Cunningham’s first goal, which came at the 7:00 mark, gave Adirondack a 1-0 advantage at the half.
“We played a great first half,” Clinton coach Gene Bushey said. “We controlled the ball, and we made some good runs. They had a nice set play where they scored the only goal of the half.”
Cunningham gave Adirondack a 2-0 lead at 18:17 of the second half before Singa Barry answered for the Cougars, with Kyle McCarthy assisting, at 32:07.
“After they made it 2-0, we came back and made a game of it,” Bushey said. “But we got a little tired, and they took advantage of a couple of mistakes, although we didn’t make many in the game.”
Naiwo added the insurance with 9:01 left in regulation and applied the finishing touch with two seconds remaining.
Adirondack held an 18-13 advantage in shots, with Adam Goldfarb making 10 saves in net for the Cougars.
“We’re still struggling to find the back of the net,” Bushey said. “It’s frustrating for everyone on the team. We lost to Herkimer 9-1, and Herkimer beat Adirondack 1-0. That’s how much better we played tonight.
“Keon Jahanbakhsh, Marcus Lefebvre, Jake Morrow and Ryan Paiser played well for us on defense, and Adam Goldfarb made some great saves.”
The Cougars are at Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday.
