---- — Chazy modified soccer begins Aug. 26
CHAZY — Chazy Central School will begin modified soccer practice Aug. 26.
The boys’ modified team will practice from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the girls modified team will practice from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Practices will be held at Chazy School. Athletes must have a current physical on file with the school nurse.
Moriah Country Club hosts 3-person scramble
MORIAH — The Moriah Country Club will be hosting a three-person scramble Aug. 31 at 1 p.m.
Entry fees are $30 for members and $45 for non-members. Format is an 18-hole scramble with a “bring you best” and handicap division.

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State baseball program will hold an informational meeting Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. in the Field House Gymnasium.
Any students who are interested in trying out for the varsity team may attend the meeting.

PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh YMCA is offering a soccer league for boys’ and girls’ ages three-and-a-half years old to seven years old.
The program is divided into two divisions: KICKERS (3-and-a-half years old to 5 years old) and DRIBBLERS (6 and 7 years old).
This instructional league is designed to be a fun, family activity, while learning how to play soccer. Potential participants may register at the YMCA or online any time from now until Sept. 10.
The program will begin on Sept. 14. Children from all area communities are welcome to participate. The practice and games will run for 60 to 90 minutes on Saturday mornings only.
Games and practices are held at the Bailey Ave. fields. All children will receive a t-shirt uniform and trophy.
Volunteer coaches are needed for this rewarding program. Those interested may register at the YMCA or online at www.plattsburghymca.com.

PLATTSBURGH — On Aug. 24, the public is invited to join the Algonquin Chapter of the ADK for a hike up Loon Mountain.

PERU — Ryan Maille and Gale Carroll took first place in the men’s and women’s A Flights, respectively, in the Adirondack Golf & Country Club Championships held this past weekend, August 17 and 18.
To win the men’s A Flight, Maille went head-to-head in a sudden-death playoff with Josh McMillan after the two golfers finished with a 166 total for two days. Neither led after the opening round, but Maille carded a 76 and McMillan an 80 in the final round, which led to a playoff. Ron McGee came in third with a 91-86-177.
In the women’s A Flight, Carroll played consistently with rounds of 86 and 87 for a two-day total of 173. Carroll won by eight strokes over runner-up Brenda King and by 16 over Barb Maille.
John Strack, who was in third place following the opening round, beat two opponents by one stroke to win the men’s B Flight with an 85-83-168. Chip Dandrow and Chris Murnane were second, one stroke back at 169.
Gerry Finney won the women’s B Flight with an 89-100-189, 14 strokes ahead of Lena Dashnaw and 15 over Carol Dandrow.
The next member tournament to be held at Adirondack will be the Bring-a-Buddy on Sunday, Sept. 15. Entry forms are available in the pro shop.
