---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Lyon Mountain Miners will look to extend their first-place lead in the Champlain Valley Baseball League when they host the second-place Meron’s Expos at the Big Ball Diamond at noon today.

The Miners (6-2) took over sole possession of first last Sunday with a 6-0 and 13-3 doubleheader sweep of the Fourth Ward Timberjaxx. David Waldron tossed a shutout in the first game and Tory Bouyea drove in five runs in the second.

The Expos (5-3), meanwhile, fell out of a tie for first when they split their twinbill with the Fourth Ward Cardinals, dropping a 1-0 decision in the opener and than rallying for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap.

Tom Neale and winning pitcher Alex LaFountain combined for the shutout in the first game for the Cardinals, while Mark Passino’s three-run homer was the key blow in the second contest for the Expos.
