Garrand leads Clinton women to playoffs

PLATTSBURGH — Katrina Garrand had herself a game Saturday.

The Clinton Community College senior, playing in her final regular season home contest, finished with a near quadruple-double in the Cougars, 74-47, women’s college victory over Hudson Valley.

Clinton has now secured a spot in the NJCAA Region III tournament.

Garrand poured in 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, had seven steals and added a block for good measure.

The win for the Cougars also avenges a loss on Jan. 31 to the Vikings, 63-60.

“It was our Senior Game,” Clinton coach Donna Dixon said. “Katrina, Emily Decker, (Ruth) Paul and (Megan) Barber all contributed; they all had a great game.

“We shot 43 percent from the floor and were very aggressive on defense. We did a good job stopping (Raeshelle) Frasier and (Angelica) Smith. They were huge for them down there.”

Emily Decker added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists for the Cougars (13-8, 11-8), while Paul had eight rebounds to go with her six points.

Freshman Alisha Ducatte shot 12-of-22 from the floor for a game-high 27 points. Jessica Decker pulled down six rebounds.

“Alisha had a monster game,” Dixon said. “She scored 18 in the first.

“We had 23 assists in the game, and overall it was just a really great game. The seniors really stepped up and it was a great 40 minutes of basketball.”

Frasier led the way for Hudson Valley with 21 points, while Smith chipped in with 14 points.

“Now we are playing for seeding,” Dixon said. “If we take care of business, we could have a decent seed.”

Clinton travels to Fulton-Montgomery today for a contest with Broome at 1 p.m.
