Clint McCool’s 1-0 upset of Jason Lapham at 112 pounds spurs Peru on to a 42-22 win over Beekmantown in a battle for the CVAC wrestling championship.

Jordan Bush scores 16 points to lead Schroon Lake to a 55-51 upset of Westport.

Elyse Spencer serves 11 points and adds 11 kills to lead PHS to a 3-0 shutout of Saranac in volleyball.

Camry Allen sinks 4 3-pointers and finishes with 15 points in leading PHS to a 43-31 upset of Northeastern Clinton in the sectional semifinals.

Trisha Sheehan’s basket with 12 seconds to play gives Willsboro a 36-34 win over Chazy in the quarterfinals.

Ryan Reif contributes 17 points and 10 rebounds as Saranac rallies from an 11-point deficit to beat PHS 63-57 in the semifinals. Adam Favro leads the Hornets with 28.

Riley Houk comes off the bench to toss in 15 points, including a game-winning jumper at the buzzer, leading Seton Catholic to a 49-47 win over Ticonderoga.

20 YEARS AGO (1993)

Plattsburgh High sophomore Scott Johnson wins the slalom and takes third in the giant slalom to capture the New York State alpine combined title at Whiteface. Sara-Placid’s Shari Miller places third in the girls’ giant slalom.

Chris Zaidan scores twice and Jason Duval makes 39 saves as Tupper Lake shocks top-seeded Saranac Lake 4-3 in the Section VII Div II hockey semifinals.

Bob Wescott scores 28 points and Chris Trina chips in with 21 at Elizabethtown-Lewis knocks off No. 1 seed Wells 67-59.

Todd Coupal scores 2 goals and Glenn Coupal, one, while Zeke Lancto stars in goal as Seton Catholic defeats PHS 3-1 in the Section VII Div. I hockey final.

Northeastern Clinton beats Tupper Lake 6-1 for the Div. II hockey crown with Sam Dassi and Erik Richard each scoring twice.

25 YEARS AGO (1988)

Mike Campbell’s goal at 3:35 of overtime gives unbeaten St. John’s a 3-2 triumph over Salmon River and the NAC East title in hockey. Mike Cleveland and Jim Phillips also score while Ron Lewis nets a pair for the Shamrocks.

Dale Bigelow drops in 23 points as Willsboro caps a 14-0 season with a 98-58 win over Westport. Scott Duncan leads the Eagles with 26. Bill DeNeale scores 20 points and grabs 16 rebounds as Willsboro tops Westport 74-45 in the sectionals.

Sophomore Jon Rushford rips the nets for 28 points and Jerry Kowalowski contributes 19 to lead Northern Adirondack to an 81-70 win over AuSable Valley in the sectionals. Ned Strong leads the Patriots with 20.

Beekmantown’s Mark Provost, a four-time champion, is named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Section VII Tournament, won by Peru.

30 YEARS AGO (1983)

Doug Olson’s free throw with 14 seconds left lifts Platttsburgh High to a 47-46 win over AuSable Valley in a CVAC semifinal while Ticonderoga knocks off Saranac 41-38. Mark McIntyre scores 11 for the Sentinels and Joel Revette, 14, for Saranac.

Brent Hollamby (112 pounds) is named the Outstanding Wrestler as Peru tops Beekmantown 166-147.5 to win the Section VII crown. Beekmantown’s Shannon Carter (167) records the fastest pin (38 seconds).

Former Northeastern Clinton volleyball standout Bonnie Covey is starring for Eastern Michigan University.

Chris Joyce wins the Beartown Junior Invitational ski race.

40 YEARS AGO (1973)

Butch Butchino tallies 26 points and Tom Ryan, 16, as Saranac caps a 14-0 league season with a 70-56 win over Moriah. Tom Nels nets 22 for the Vikings.

Crown Point’s Glenn Lang caps a brilliant MVAC career with 35 points in a 78-70 win over Dannemora. Willsboro overcomes a 42-point effort by Keene’s Pat Whitney to win 86-60.

George Poissant scores 22 points, Jamie Riley, 18, and Tom Rice, 15, as Chazy snaps Elizabethtown-Lewis’s 17-game unbeaten streak with a 64-56 win.

Danny Harris (113) and Dave Hoff (167) record pins and Terry Blow (145) scores a big win to lead Northern Adirondack to a 34-16 win, handing Peru its first CVAC setback in wrestling in 11 years.

Mark Garrow tosses in 20 points, Danny Thomas adds 14 and Russ Keller, 11, to lead Plattsburgh High to its first victory, 90-60, over St. John’s in four years.

Ron Rabideau nets 21 points and Ted Woolridge, 20, as Jim Lacey’s Clinton Community College Cougars defeat Adirondack CC, 67-60, for their 14th win of the season.

50 YEARS AGO (1963)

Bobby Smart and Tony LaValley of Plattsburgh drop bouts in the Eastern Golden Gloves finals in Lowell, Mass. Lenny Smallacombe loses a split decision in the semifinals.

MAI captures the Triple Crown (Catholic, City and CVL titles) with a 58-55 win over St. John’s. Ron Dumas leads the Muzzlers with 19 points while Pat Gregory collects 13 points and 20 rebounds for the Irish.

Dick Booth scores 18 points and Harry Yelle, 13, to lead Plattsburgh High to a 56-50 upset of MAI.

Norman Racine pours in 32 points to lead St. Mary’s of Champlain to a 71-53 triumph over St. Pius X of Saranac Lake. Tim Smart leads the Golden Knights with 27.

60 YEARS AGO (1953)

Port Henry’s Pat Salerno is named to the First Team YMCA All-America Gold Medal basketball team. Ed Donche, of McMartin Motors, lands on the Fourth Team and Ellenburg’s John Smith receives honorable mention.

Dick Erving of Rouses Point is featured in the March issue of True magazine in an article on pickerel shooting. Jim Rochester and Charles Duffy, also of Rouses Point, and Harry Oliver and Earl Roach of Plattsburgh are also mentioned.

Brooklyn Dodgers prospect Johnny Podres of Witherbee scores 34 points to lead the New York Hawks to a 98-81 win over the Montreal YMCA. Murray Bullock chips in with 26 and Bob Garrow, 20.

Frank Dukette’s 32-point effort paces Dannemora to a 65-46 triumph over Chateaugay. Mellon scores 16 for the Bulldogs.

70 YEARS AGO (1943)

Hal Stokes nets 10 points with Don Clemons and Joe Papa adding seven apiece as Plattsburgh High wraps up the North Country Interscholastic League title with a 33-21 victory over St. John’s. Tony Livingston and Riley score seven each for the Irish.

MAI, with Stokes scoring 14 points, nips Lyon Mountain 31-30. Thompson tallies 15 for the Miners.

Vellaire hits for 17 points to pace St. Mary’s of Champlain to a 24-23 win over Mount Assumption. Higgins scores 11 for the Mount.
