The Hornets’ Andrew Bechard tied the game at one 1:19 into the second period on an unassisted goal.

“It was a playoff-like atmosphere,” Saranac Lake coach Will Ellsworth said. “We were pretty even in the shot department; anyone could have took it home in the third period.

“We missed on a breakaway in overtime, and they got a power play. They threw pucks on the net, and unfortunately it went in. It was a pretty tight game; the playoff hunt this year is going to be wide open.”

Robbie Knowles made 20 saves in net for Plattsburgh in the victory. Blake Darrah turned away 26 in a losing cause.

“I thought we certainly dominated in the second and third period.” Hornets coach Jamie Reidy said. “Overall I thought it was a good, solid CVAC hockey game.

“I can’t say enough about Andrew Bechard just leading our charge (Wednesday). He’s an eighth grader, and he brings a lot of energy. I also thought our defensive game was much better in our defensive zone.”
