PAUL SMITHS — Paul Smith’s fought back in the second half to trail by just a point, but Canton was able to pull away in the end for an 85-72 victory in men’s college basketball action Wednesday.
Khalid Vaughn led all scorers with 22 points for the Kangaroos. Tyler Ellison added 21 points, while Scott Bartensteon chipped in with 17 points.
Former Franklin Academy and North Country Community College standout Ryan Lamica had nine points for Canton.
“They energy and effort defensively was much better in the second half to start, which allowed us to got the lead to one,” Bobcats coach Joe Akey said. “At that point we took a couple quick shots, which always hurt us, and they pushed the lead back to eight.
“The team’s effort was great all night, but we just couldn’t get stops when we needed them down the stretch.”
Shiva Senthil led the way for Paul Smith’s with 21 points. Alex Medina added 18 points, while Patrick Wightman contributed 12. Adam Klock finished with 11 points.
The Bobcats will next play in the Yankee Conference tournament against Eastern Maine at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
