Saranac, Westport girls win in basketball

TICONDEROGA — Tori Trim led a balanced scoring attack with eight points to lead the Saranac Chiefs to a 46-25 victory over the Ticonderoga Sentinels Thursday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls’ basketball.

Miranda Marnes scored seven points for Saranac, while Kristen Napper and Kaitlyn Bowman both had six. The Chiefs led 28-7 at halftime.

“We couldn’t keep up with their speed,” Ticonderoga coach Shelly Young said. “They played very well.”

Andrea Rich tossed in seven points for Ticonderoga, and Meg Campney added six.

PERU — Mary and Meghan Mazzella combined for 24 points, while Brianna Hackett added 13, including three 3-pointers in an Indians’ non-league victory Friday night.

“Defensively, we were able to come out and force a lot of turnovers with our pressure,” Peru coach Dave Baroody said. “At the same time, our ball movement was excellent, and we shot the ball extremely well. Our team played an outstanding, complete game.”

Guard Courtney Boyea paced the Bulldogs with seven points. Abby Barnes added five.
